Cupra type r is a pretty godo choice in terms of performance potential, but then again it depends on what you are after, you say you arent bothered at getting beaten by things, so why not go for something moderately comfortable and that is pretty economical, for example i would suggest:
a Focus 1.8 TDCi on a 53 plate which is coming upto 15,000 miles
