Wondering if some of you HGV drivers or travellers might know. I have a LHD Sierra and I'd like to know where it came from. Dash clocks are in mph and have English on them. The only clue is that it has a sticker in the window that looks like a German Highways pictogram. Typical continental car with roll up windows in the rear etc.
Anyone recognise this?

There is not one sticker or language on the car at all. It had a fair bit of dry rot that I took care of so it must have lived live in a wet location near the sea. It had rust on places my 3 door never had and I live in a rainforest.
No A/C, no power rear windows, central locking, power front windows, white, 2wd, and the vin plate is as such:

We Have that Symbol for our motorways Here. But the background is blue and number means nothing to me. it means little to me converted to KM either.
96 km is about 61mph i think.
the lack of "toys" in it could just mean its a base "L" model or similar. i have an orion L and from factory they're dire.
The rot factor is abit confusing though as German built ones as a rule of thumb are better.
someone will be able to translate the vin though i'm sure. i cant remember how to do it, and if i could, i dont know what the codes stand for
sorry i couldn't be more helpful!

could have come from anywhere and been to switzerland.
my german cossie had the same spec as you describe, as did my dutch one, so that doesn't really narrow it down. the dash has probably been changed, as no other european country uses mph

It has a 175mph clock and I have a spare 195 clock. Yeah, forgot about that.
Well the majority of the LHD cosworth around here wee from Germany so that's why I based it on that. However it may have come from Holland as there is a popular exporter there I understand.

with cosworths and left hand drive theres every chance it could of come from germany to the uk and been correctly changed into a mph speedo etc, then its gone for export to canada. when did it arrive over in your country.
theres a escort cosworth monte carlo on ebay for sale right now and its in fookin kuala lumpah in maylasia, the car came from shifty simon at warrender in bolton back in the mid 90's when almost new, some of our members may remember warrender and the top cars they had, thats a story right there bringing that back.

just thinking about it and i'm sure one of my left hooker cossies was converted into mph and rhd lamps,it is easier not having to work out how fast your going because my current car does not have miles per hour yet a fookin rhd has kilometers under the miles, flipping marvelous.
Pacwest - how many cossies are out there in Canada?
Im asking as I have lots of family out there and am thinkin about moving out there if the job situation is stable enough - but will only do it if I can get my hands on a cossie out there.

There are two in my town of New west. One is a saff with just under 20k on it. Been in storage for 10+ years. For sale for $14,000 CDN.
There is craig who has two 3 doors. One black for sale and one moonstone he just bought. There are about 4-5 Escos in the country. Roger in Poco has a 3 door. There is a moonstone saff in Vancouver. A couple back East, a 4x4 saff in Alberta somewhere. Ferenc has two race cars, Escos and a saff.
Honest answer I bet there are around 25 in total. You can get your hands on one. If you are moving here to make cash then import it's not a big deal. As long as the car is 15 years old you can import it. Smart move is to buy one there and then ship it to Halifax and drive to your destination. Buying a cossie here isn't hard. In all honesty I bet you could buy three local to me in Vancouver/British Columbia right now. The saff and the beat up black 3 door would go for 8000 pounds. My saff once done would be cheaper than that. Not that I'd really want to sell but who knows. Down in Seattle there is a guy who does good work with Cossie engines. Knows his sstuff. no mapping for weber marelli here though. You'll be doing a chip that follows very strict guidelines or going lambda.
Cozzfather, that singapore Escos is cheap and the shipping to my side of the continent is CHEAP. Damn. As for my ride it has LHD lamps and they stuck a 175mph speedo on it. In the trunk was a yellow faded clock set from turbosystems that has the 195 mph speedo. Wouldn't mind finding a proper black clock face kit for it.

the saff for sale is that moonstone with low miles which has been for sale for years ?
Got loads of family in Vancouver so that is where I would be looking to stay.
I think the strictest part are the emissions.

Every Cossie I know has passed aircare no problem. Aircare just weeds out the badly tuned cars.
I've been over that moonstone cossie with a fine tooth comb. With the CDN $ so strong against the Pound right now the price is just not there for me yet. 8000 quid buys a LOT of car. Say 7000 plus shipping it and another 500 to import it. Still, 6500 buys a lot of Saff.
You'd be wise to just bring your 3 door.

Had the same problem with importing from the States.
Day time running lights, Speedo needs to be in Kms etc etc ..
Canadian (Crappy) tire does the BC checks .. Even need the check done on brand new vehicles.
Then you need to take it to ICBC And they need to see all the VIN numbers and a letter from Ford with no Recall's due etc etc.
Right Pain in the fucking arse.
I ended up buying a Brand new F150 from Calgary (Alberta) and had to do all this crap with only 367 kms on the clock. Even cost $120 to just get clearance to drive the fucking this to BC

I never seen any cossies out there .. Anybody with any money normally drive Blown Mustangs or monster Duramax Pick-ups.

You don't need daytime running lights on a Cosworth. The law wasn't passed when they were manufactured. Cosworth speedos have KMS on them and MPH. Fine. you don't need a recall issue since it's from overseas.
You need to pay PST and GST taxes plus %8.1 duty on foreign cars. Then you need to have Canadian Tire do your federal inspection. You get a two year exemption from Aircare as well.
The rules for importing a less than 15 year old car from the US are different from importing from overseas.

Again, importing into Canada from the USA is quite different. Once the car is 15 years old it gets vastly easier.

The PST can be avoided in some cases ... Until its time to Insure.
Funny because I looked into importing an Old Mustang from the States and it was manditory to have KMS and daytime running lights ... MM fooking minefield ...
So then .. Importing an 08 super duty from the states is harder than an old Mustang?
great so if i go back to canada with me left hand drive escort cosworth i can drive it all legally ?? what with mine being one of the more important early models thus having no airbags ??

So does the 1979 American car have KMS on the speedo? No. You'll need a previously enjoyed speedo overlay or one from a CDN car.
Daytime running lights are only required after 1989. So if the model year is 1990 then you need them. Before that, no.

Check the build date on the car and if it is fifteen years plus a day you're totally entitled to bring it in to Canada. So your large turbo Escos can walk right in. No taxes paid. You just have to legally import it with RIV and federal inspection.

"No import duty will be levied on a car, motorcycle or boat brought in as part of your one-time settlers effects. For further information please visit - www.tc.gc.ca. "

Good thing is you can insure for 3/6/12 month periods .. But without any history there the cost will be high .. even for basic cover. So does the 1979 American car have KMS on the speedo? No. You'll need a previously enjoyed speedo overlay or one from a CDN car.

My choice would be a LHD RS focus .. In green
So that would exclude GST/PST (Piss-taking Sales TAX) I would be heading into Alberta so no PST ..
Any new Shape Focus in the lower Mainland? Seen plenty of MK1's but all Saloons ..
