S1 Escort - ST170 fitment.
Thinking of buying a S1 escort however am thinking of going with a ST170 engine and keeping NA.
Has anyone fitted a st170 into a S1 and what have you done with regard to the engine mount?
Undecided on what box to use though too

Why would you want to take out a turbo'd lump and put a non turbo'd engine in?
Or are you buying the S1 without running gear? still would stick a turbo'd lump in it even just for value reasons

He has done a lot of great work and various engines to mk3 Escorts belonging to Ade(Fast Ford photographer) off here. Maybe worth a pm.
The car was a white mk3 with a na st170 engine and s1 kit ( i think? ) with 16i stripes on side and bonnet

Agreed it is a strange idea going from its original cvh turbo lump.
However I have one turbo car and that gets all the treats so this is to be just used the odd weekend.
I want something that can be fitted and forgotten about so to speak and a standard st170 engine would offer the best of both worlds for me.
The reliability being the major factor and 170hp would be fine for a nice road spec car. Everything else would remain standard.
I have the option to purchase a pretty mint S1 with 86000 miles from new, full history, 15 trophies etc..
The owner is contemplating splitting the car also, so I can purchase as a whole or less the engine running gear, the saving there would pay for the st170 setup
Like you say though, should it be just kept as Ford intended, breakdown and rebuild every 6 months

i can understand him really. admittedly i'm not really a fan of turbo's. i like wacking great sets of carbs and superchargers. you have to admit the st170 engine will be a lot more reliable than the cvh turbo with the same bhp. and the engine is probably i tad stronger.

Personally if its a car to use for a blast, i'd not do a series one. Especially one that sounds like a very nice car?
It'd be far easier and probably cheaper to do it to a mk5/6 escort. Plus you then have the easy fitment of an MTX75 box

Gus I just want to be like you, Im even eating out most nights, who needs the gym when you have Ronald McDonald on your team!

Will speak with the owner tonight and see what the score is.
EFI though or MFI thats todays dilemma ??
It would be rude to let him split it! + your only end up driving it
maybe!
Been thinking hard about this last few days, I think I will be keeping it CVH turbo and placing it back to original spec.

Dont do it luke it will just end up another money pit
the money you will spend you could buy a standard s1 that you could keep that way & use for pottering about in good weather! Why put a st170 engine in a s1 ? it would still be a crime to use it in the wet is the car is mint. Best just keep the cash you would have spent & use your bmw

Im hearing you loud and clear, Im just fearful of those rattling bean tin cvh engines.
If its standard bar the car, chip and intercooler LOL hopefully it will survive some spirited Sunday drives.
Beemer is too granddad spec! BUT its practical, tows the Fiesta, is ultra reliable (bar the power steering pump) and is super comfy on long drives.
S1 just looks ace!
AND see you SUNDAY

cvh's arent that bad if they are running sendible power & not driven like a tit. But if you hava old cvh done more miles than the moon & trying to run over 200 bhp then it goes without saying. If you buy the right car in the first place then you will be able to use it in the nice days with no worrys. Trust me i did with my s1 it wasnt fast but felt great just pottering about knowing it was mint.
Im fine mate you? wont see you at the weekend i will be in las vegas , hard life aint it
