Default A few questions (boost etc)

I'm looking at an RS tomorrow, apparently the boost has be "raised to 10psi on the solenoid" now that didn't make much sense to me, i thought chipping was the only way to get boost up?

Yes "Chipping" the car will raise the boost, the maximum boost is dictated by the programmed threshold in the chip, with an aftermarket chip this value is raised hence the amal value will not close until this higher value is reached.

What some people do is adjust the rod travel on the actuator which will just melt your engine unless done properly to suit. You will find the car should have a -31 or -34 actuator as well as this will be needed with that spec.

OK, well i don't think its chipped or got a -31 so how is the boost raised? What does he mean by "via the solenoid"? If its only at 10psi it should be ok until payday when i can sort it?

Might just mean a bleed valve's been put on/actuator adjusted and the guy doesn't know what he's on about, which sounds likely.

As above, a chip will determine the max boost and if the car's still got the original amal valve connected up then the ecu will allow the valve to bleed off more air to achieve higher boost.

you can adjust the amal valve which is known as the solenoid or it could have a boost solenoid which is known as a bleed valve or a piston melter in rs turbo terms.
if he is refering to the amal valve then he may have had jets put in to change the boost level, Oddkidd rejets them when seting up a amal valve on an rs turbo.
or if its a bleed valve then its just been adjusted slightly to allow max 10psi boost to be reached. either way find out who set it up and make sure the co level, igntion are all correct.

OK, sounds slightly scary, if it is the amal or a bleed valve either way can i turn it back down to 8 easily enough by trial and error using my boostgauge?
