Yeah deffo get proof.
If they provide you with proof then there's nothing you can do. You were in the wrong, you knew you were in the wrong, bend over and take it like a man.

STOP!
Do Not take legal advise off a bunch of blokes off of the internet!
They do not have to send you anything for a fixed penalty notice. youre only entitled to the evidence if you've been charged with sometihng (ie itd going to court)
when i asked for proof after getting a fixed penalty, they sent me a summons instead
i then got 4 points and 300ish quid fine rather than the 3 points i woulda got on the fixed penalty!
if youre gonna ask for a pic, do it as a reply to the "who was driving the car" letter. just write back saying it could have been a few people and would they be kind enough to send a copy of the pictures to help identify the driver. DONT do it as a reply to a fixed penalty notice

As above!!
You can only request proof if you plead 'Not Guilty' which is fucked up, as that automatically increases your points/fine. So if you were speeding, there's no point in asking for it.
If I was you, had a clean license and was doing the speed I'd take it on the chin. Insurers pretty much ignore the first 3 points (and some ignore the first 6) as so many people have them they're now effectively 'devalued' and are no longer an indication of driving ability/safety.

the insurance thing is most important. i'm already getting raped by flux
full no claims and a clean license really mean nothing when you've got a shit postcode
But After picking my dummy back up, and reading through it again just now it looks like i might be able to waive the points but still pay the fine by going on a course about speed. heres hoping

erm no it isnt an admission of guilt, yes i would inform them that a number of people could have used the car and a photograph would help id the driver.... i have proved myself not guilty twice after nips and both times i have asked for the photograph and not given a cover letter.

saw picture of my car going trough the camera ,4 points and around Ł150 fine so there you go
on the other hand you could go to court - i wont go into all the details but years ago I got charged with dangerous driving - went to court, pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving but guilty to careless driving.
Result was I got a 42 day ban instead of a 12month ban

Cheers for all the replies. It seems that if they have the proof they'll take you to court and have your pants down, and if they dont have proof, they'll just let you off.
HMMM how to tell.
I'm going to apply for the course and take it on the chin anyway. HOPEFULLY i'll pay the fine and not get any points this time.
last time i go to a sodding pf pub meet

I went to court to fight one when I was a student, I manage to do such a good job of proving how penniless I was that the fine was only 10 pounds.
They then made up for it by giving me 5 points instead of 3, DOH!
Next time I'll write them a letter on a load of 50 pound notes stapled together in the shape of an A4 page and postmark it from monaco

You can ask for photographs to help you identify the driver. This is not a guilty plea. It'll delay it and there's a small chance are you might be forgotten about. Slim but it does happen.

I'm going to apply for the course and Show willing to change!
The Ł60 i can take as a smack on the arse
if i get rejected for that i'll try and get out of it. i'm hoping that if i accept i was in the worng and go to the course, they'll accept that i was a little bit over the limit, and have geniunely made a mistake.
