i'm currently in florida visiting my parents and am gonna order a ems and get it delivered here so i won't have to pay import tax getting it sent back to england
however i'm a bit confused by the website and have spoken to the diyautotune.com guys who don't know european cars
basically i need everything to run my rs2000 turbo project (2l dohc i4) but am not clued up on the electrical side so need some help, i need everything from laptop to car to run it
i obviously need the ecu http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...-kit-p-59.html and tuning cable http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...thru-p-35.html and the software downloaded for free, however do i need the wiring harness http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/1...eady-p-43.html or this edis adapter http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/e...v20-p-151.html or both????? plus they talk about coil thingys??? this is where i'm lost, do i need anything else? someone please help as i want to prove that this works

My advice is to buy a fully built unit from a trusted source in the UK, you will get the backup and advice for not much more outlay. I bought a MS ECU from a guy called Bill Shurvinton, it was very well built and he gave lots of advice. If you search the MS forums for his name you will find contact details.

If not try this guy

MegaSquirt is a lot like cossie engine management. Very simple harness, speed density. The software that learns your VE table and the software to program the system is easy to use and FREE.

Plug it into your car, set it up for basic running then drive it to the rollers and get them to tune it. It's a great system. I have it on my 3 door.

Mtech Automotive do their own revised version of MegaSquirt, called the V4, that looks like a good proposition.

in what way?

What do you mean "what i would need to run?"?

You need the ecu, a loom you make up, and to map it.

Not really anymore to it than that surely?

i understand, matt is still a good port of call as he started off by building the megasquirts up from day 1 so he will be able to inform you on any extra bits you may or may not need, i was going down the megasquirt route but then matt has introduced the v4 which is a far supperior ecu, im also trying to get to grips with this side of tuning, there is a lot to take in when it comes to mapping but it realoly is intersting and fun

As for import tax I heard somewhere if you send it as a gift there is no tax to pay but I may be wrong. How far off is your birthday.lol

well the rs2k should already have a 36-1 tooth pattern and crank sensor so you won't need that! You'll need a map sensor that can read positive pressure so something like a 3 bar. Then you'll need a coolant temp sensor and an air charge temp sensor. Also a throttle position sensor. Your car already has an air and a coolant sensor as well as a throttle sensor so you'll just need a map sensor. I believe the latest ecu's can run coils directly so no need for edis modules. Thats a start for you.

The MS1 in the link was for a Zetec engine, it will run fuel and spark using the 36-1 standard RS2000 trigger wheel. I posted the link to MS1 as it is cheaper than MS2.

How comforable are you with calibrating things like coolant and air temperature sensors?
If you feel it's complicated enough without doing that, buy the compatible sensors while you're at it
Make sure the MS you buy is set for 36-1 crank trigger.
Use shielded cable on the crank position sensor and earth the shielding at one end only.
RS2000 injectors struggle at much over 200bhp, you can use bigger injectors from a Nissan as they are side feed.
RS2000 does not have a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator, small turbo Escort Cosworth one fits straight into the stock fuel rail.

EDIT if you are using a newish laptop it will not have the port in the back that the tuning cable fits into and will need a USB adaptor.

I doubt it, you would be better off talking to Jason AKA "Kryten" on

www.RS2000-16v.com

He has done the turbo conversion with Emerald management.
