Default M3 turbo kit, will it work lads?

Thinking of buying an m3 to accompany the cossie on the but i cant justify buying a car not having a turbo so will this work do you think? i wouldnt use that turbo i would have a proper turbo fitted but with an ECU re-map and afm relocation it'll work, what u think?

130%

You could buy the kit - a bargain it is too IMHO, and then modify the downpipe etc etc to make it fit past the steering column - not difficult really, just time consuming and a lot of silly angles and maths

It could well kill an engine - just like a badly setup Cosworth motor will lunch itself on the first high speed run

Main issue with the american made kit is the fact all yank E36's have loads of room on the exhaust side for the downpipe due to being left hookers. Not to say that it can't be done - just look at the 325TDS/TD for example, turbocharged straight 6, slightly canted over and still manages to miss the steering linkage.

Have a good look at other conversions that are available over here - I'm pretty sure X-Sport or whoever they are do a kit for UK cars.

the us m3 is nothing like the european m3 though. the us one only has 260hp so is not as highly strung as a european one. lower compression etc.etc

if your going to do it, do it to a cheap m3 so its not such a big loss if it goes wrong.
funny enough i have a cheap m3 for sale. pmsl

ive wondered about doing this a few times, but i just cant do another project.
atleast until i finish the current ones.

why not fit a rotrex supercharger? No fucking about with exhausts and downpipes etc, and the superchager will be a lot easier to fit, and won't need too much doing to the engine to run low boost? Give a decent chunk of power as well.

should be able to add 100hp to a euro m3 on a standard engine with out any problems i think. think 450hp is where the problems start.

i fitted a lhd conv to a rhd.. 350z twin turbo.. few probs as stated with steering but all came good on the end....

the turbo they use are less than fisher price build quilty.

use a good turbo from tt.

the kit is good minus the turbo........

no mention of altering engine map to suit boost in the ad either.

i would supercharge it few companies here in uk that offer the conversion too.

it can be done for sure.

I would get E46 M3 and get HPF kit myself, although same issues LHD etc.
