Default erst breathers, smoking car

smokey s2 im presuming its rings, however when you remove the filler cap i would expect to see excess vapours etc and there are none present, the car does stall when its removed does that mean the breathers are working ok?

i removed the hose from the turbo no hint of oil and the turbo has no play atall

car smokes on idle hardly atall when you put foot down when driving etc, if you sit at a standstill reving it high it does smoke, oiley smelling too and its oilyish in the tailpipe.

any advice, im just trying to eliminate possibilitys first

I would expect rings to smoke under load not at idle. When you take teh oil cap off when idling does the car die?

a mate had this and his turbo was knackered.

loads of white smoke regardless of what the engine was doing, idle, driving or on boost. all the same

could try valve guide seals as there prone to failing on the cvh engine, my brothers had the same problem and that was the cause, does it puff a bit of blue smoke when first started ?. You can buy a tool to change these with the head still on the car so its cheap and easy to do so could be worth trying it if the compression results come back ok.

Would it not be better doing a leakdown test to check the health of the engine??

....and Valve Stem Seals tend to show on over run, so get car up to temp and drive to 4500-5000rpm, take foot off gas and let it run down the rev range itself on engine braking and see if there are any signs of smoke. If the valve stem seals are tired then they wont take the pressure and oil will pass.

Cheers,
Grant

I agree with that. I'd just do a simple compression test before getting involved with changing the VSS's although cheap and easy to do will be pointless in the GST if you're in for the big RB Good luck!
