....and Valve Stem Seals tend to show on over run, so get car up to temp and drive to 4500-5000rpm, take foot off gas and let it run down the rev range itself on engine braking and see if there are any signs of smoke. If the valve stem seals are tired then they wont take the pressure and oil will pass.

I agree with that. I'd just do a simple compression test before getting involved with changing the VSS's although cheap and easy to do will be pointless in the GST if you're in for the big RB Good luck!
