Default Anyone is the the Snake Pass area (A57)

Hi all
As some many know I became reduntant last week and well it maybe coming on the cards to either sell the car or sorn it off the road for the future, so I planning on having a day blasting up and down the Snake Pass as I love the road to drive, not sure when but very very soon.

Sorry to hear about the job situation.
I used to travel up to Sheffield quite regularly for work in hire cars and I first drove snakes pass at night and was pretty shocked driving it the next morning in daylight.
I always made sure I drove home via the peak district

Cat n Fiddle - cracking road, if you are a biker

I'd be up for the Woodhead run, infact, I would even take lead and offer a cracking circular route to drive some fantastic roads on with stunning scenery and brilliant photo opportunities

I keep trying to get a few of us together to go upto the Buttertubs Pass, but something always gets in the way, usually the weather

Where abouts are you anyway Dave?

The Strines is a good little road to blat down too. It connects woodhead to snakes, making a nice little circuit.

I'm from Grantham, Lincs, but Iv been up there walking ect, and love the road, even first time in a my 1.6 astra belmont, in the snow!

Back to it, well I,m not sure what day of the week would be best, for traffic ect. Think It should be open to any cars too.
To those of you that know the area better if some one could knock up a google map with other roads on it to and post the screen dump of it that would good.

Bet is fun a bike, was walking on the north side of the pass on sat up near the Alport Castles ridge, on the way up sat and had food, looking down on the road, getting a good view of the road see all the biker tank it down there, and a F430, echoing round the vally.
Also so see a new FRS playing on the road round Hathersage

It is the A628 from Stocksbridge to Ashton-U-Lyne.

Shed load of SPECS cameras on the Stocksbridge Bypass part of it though............

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...96881&t=h&z=12

Cracking road aswell when there is very little traffic.

I live very close to the A6024 junction (about 8 miles give or take a mile) - That is a cracking road aswell up over Holme Moss

You mean Greenfield

That road is known as the "Isle of Skye" - cracking road Except for some severe negative camber in places - you can usually tell where this is as most weeks there is a fresh hole in the moorland where a car has been ditched at high speed

Adverse it is

Negative it is too - the road falls out of the corner instead of in to the corner like you would expect

Hi all
Thanks for all the post, just been looking at my OS map and having a smoke, thinking of meeting somewhere at the Sheffield end of the A57, drive up to Glossop, on the the woodhead road(B6105) then on to the A628, then in a village call Midopestone come off and onto a Yellow road thats not numbered not my Os map passed the Strines resr and back out onto the A57 and off down to Bamford and onto Castleton out to A624 then back up to Glossop to come back down the snake pass to Sheffield.
How does that sound to you local lads, Iv only driven across the Snake pass so dont know what the other roads are like.

Better route for you is this.

Start at Stocksbridge (J35a M1 I think) and head up the bypass then onto the Woodhead. Take this to Stalybridge, turn round and return but bear left up the A6042 to Holme. Bear left and follow the Chain Road over to Marsden and then down the A62 to Denshaw/Delph then follow the road over the A637 Buckstones and have a spot of dinner at the Lower Royal George pub. Set off back up the A637 and back to Denshaw, turn right and follow the road to Sowerby bridge and then take the A629 for a leasurely drive back to the starting point

Avoid weekends as everyone hits the roads then, Mid week is usually good. I'll let you know once the taxi is back on the road - awaiting brakes, tax and a setup at the moment

Cat n Fiddle's pony, too slow on the Macc side for me.

Not a fan of Buttertubs, but then again every time if been up there its been the windiest place in the world, the roads around there are AWESOME though,
Settle to Hawes
Then loop Brough, Alston, Middleton in Teesdale

Theres a left hander going to Manchester on that, just before the last layby before Tintwistle, the camber is with you, real bikers knee down on the pavement there
