High insurance group (14) and also so many have been stolen/smashed over the years so that they now command a hefty premium for an old car with sweet F/A Horsepower.

annoying because ive seen a smart one thats already stripped, on spax suspesion, my ideal wheels and colour, basiclly, the EXACT spec id want an xr2i, and its only £500!

i might just bite the bullet and go for it anyway. fucking gutting though handing over money for something ill probably never 'use'.

Yeah but its the law... If you want it, go for it!!! Pa the insurance. Look at ways of lowering that high premium...

Limited mileage, or a classic policy etc.

Put it in one of your parents name and go on as a second driver. Everyone frowns on it on this site but in the real world shitloads of people do it

thats about the same as what i was re quoted for mine this year before i got my FRST with same ncb and sp30. I pay 100 more for the rs with fully comp and all declared with chris knott.

i had an xr for 3 years and realised i could have something a bit better and quicker for around the same money

well ive been to see the car and decided to go for it. the shell is very very good. theres a couple of plates on the sills which are solid but tatty looking that probably want redoing, and another small hole that will need doing for the mot, but the rest of the sills towards the back, and the floors are fine. also the filler cap area is perfect bar a scratch where someones obviously fumbled with the key. even all the foglights are intact. its original and rust free anyway. only done 72k, engines sweet, new clutch, rad, shocks, springs, red dot disks, avon zv3s iirc on rs2k rims, one bucket, 3" 6point sabelts. already stripped out.

only fault really is the paint, one of the previous owners was fond of touching up panels but this can be sorted, not that i really care.

Adrian flux will not cover you to drive any vehicle until you are 25, i was with them for 5 years and told them to piss off this time, I had a st170 when i was 23 with lots of performance and handling mods and paid 650 then sold it and bought a citroen c4 vts hdi 140 (moment of madness) now bought another st170 in standard form and they are asking for 950 lol . swinton have insured me for 400 with 5 years ncb in bs14 postcode and had license 5 years so pretty good.
