can you guys remember tom scarlets s1 1600 turbo running 319hp? i know he was running silly low comp 7-2-1 if i remember rightly,but had shot peened rods, were they standard ford affair, if so were can i get this done? field motorsport?

 

Don't think i'd want to risk 300bhp on standard rods when steel ones have come down in price as they have now!! Was never convinced of those figures stated in the magazines either on a t3....the new reincarnation he did wasn't overly fast when it was timed at brunters, certainly not as quick as you'd expect wth the power it was meant to have. But yes, field motorsport did his engines so give them a call i'd say!

 

Trust me that car was silly fast! When they timed the car at brunters it was one of the hottest days on record!

 

if its the peening in particular your after, dont go wasting money asking a specialist tuner to do it as you will pay a tuner premium for a job that can be done, like mine for example, in the shot blasting facility of a foundry lol. couple of the foundries my dad has worked at have done shot peening surface finishing on a variety of their castings, nowt special

 

does this strengthen the rods like people say,what else does this do to the rods

 

basically the peening removes tensile stresses and replaces with compressive stresses, which reduces fatigue and increases product life. also in cast parts, most imperfections and hairline cracks originate at the surface, so they are either removed by the peening, or the cracks themselves arent as problematic when in compression

in a nut shell, twat it with lots of shot and make it look all dimpled lol

 

toms engine was very quick with this set up im sure field motorsport wouldnt lie about the power this car ran,and the spec

 

Had my zetec rods dun for my turbo zvh ( steal all good 4 years later )
And now my st170 rods are geting the same treatmeno.

 

i had mine shot peened and put arp bolts in cost me £180 for all 4 and no'1 rod snaped two days after i had my car set up. was running about 270 bhp at 25 psi. i dont think its that good but it did work toms car
you can get rods cheap now tho
