before doing it, think about when you will ride. if you will ride in the winter, you need a load more gear than if you ride in summer only. i would advise that you buy your own gear before doing your test/lessons, as it will fit properly and be more comfortable, making you more relaxed and able to concentrate just on riding.

if you're not going to ride in winter, i wouldn't have lessons in winter. it's damned cold without the proper gear (the school may lend you gear, but it is unlikely to be really warm and comfortable), and a cold rider is a tense rider.

choosing a school is important, and you have had a couple of suggestions already and recomendations are the best way imo.

Do It!!!!!!!!! You wont regret it, so different to being in a car, its the open air feeling, its hard to describe really. But even on the 500cc plodders you take ya lessons and test on its soo much fun, they feel pretty fast at the time!

Done my direct access last year for 350 notes in the Hebburn up in the North East.

anyway, when ya do pass you can buy this bike im selling, perfect first bike, not too fast GSXR 600 SRAD Dream Machine painted Rizla race rep

modern sports bikes are just too effortlessly quick, to have any fun on one you risk imprisonment from the sort of speeds involved.

get an older one like an early blade or a zxr750 or similar, far more fun to ride than the latest stuff.

like comparing driving a 3 door with an evo, the mitsi wins in every respect performance wise, but isnt as involving or as fun.
