ok so looking to get the bottom end fully balanced on my cossie lump ,
now my query is ,
i plan on buying a new clutch later on at some point
but could they in theory balance my bottom end with my old clutch cover ??
reason i ask is whilst i know they need the weight of the cover to dial in the balance , does it have to be matched to new new clutch ,
after all the lifetime of the clutch is far less than the engine ?
and id assume most clutches are within a given weight of each other ???
anyone

i would have thought personley you would have to use the new clutch kit ect but to be honest if you did balance the bottom end with the old clutch i couldnt imagine there been a noticable diference when the new clutch was put on??

my machine shop balance's the crank first then adds the extra bits, bit by bit and balance's them to the crank.
so all you would have to do was take all the parts back down when you wanted the clutch doing.

first thing first why do you see the need to balance the bottom end of your lump? what spec are you going for? as this has a bearing on if it needs doing or not, trying to do everything on a project takes the cost and time to do it ott, belive me I have been there with a car that took me 9 years to build..
if it doesn't need it don't do it, this is how so many projects end up being sold on unfinished

Agreed 100% Steve. People get carried away doing all the little fiddly jobs or jobs that dont really need doing but would sound good on a spec sheet. Then they run out of money or lose interest cos it never feels like progress is being made and sell up. Im guilty of it too so know its true. Very few actually finish a project in so much depth compared to those who just do the essential work.

beefy I think I recommended it last time as you seemed to indicate you were going for a big hp build, 400 is very achievable on a standard bottom end.
you need to stop worring about the little things that are nice to have's and concentrate on the big things like getting the car ready for an engine /running gear because your project will eat up money like you eat parmo's,it's the little things that add up like pumps, pipes, exhaust's, clip's, trim etc.
My 100E cost me 15k and that was without such luxuries as coilovers etc.. I kept all my reciepts and I wish I hadn't lol

Beef, a fresh built standard bottom end will have no trouble with 400 bhp IMO. Dont worry about the things that would be nice to have, just do what it NEEDS and you will be sooo much happier as it will progress quicker and wont cost as much.
