VIC Test
Am I right in assuming that a VIC test is when your engine and chassis numbers are checked to make sure that a cat C write off has not been rung?
I'm thinking about buying a car that's a cat C write off because it was towed in gear (an automatic) and the box and engine were mashed (big hole in the inlet manifold for a start).
I'd just chuck a new engine in and then get a VIC test. Where do you stand with the numbers not matching up? Also how much do they cost?

It's only an identity check i very much doubt they will even check engine numbers, we took a corsa up for vic a few years back that we had put an xe in and they diddnt even mention the engine. Costs around Ł40 iirc
Swap the engine but just take along a pic or two of the swap just incase you get asked. It takes 10-15 mins for them to do it. Done a few in the past. Last one was bout 3 year ago and cost bout 35-40 quid.
If you want to drive the car to VOSA it must be insured and MOT'd but you don't need tax.
