Injury at work
Hiya guys and gals i have broken my hand at work this morning on a tyre machine what i am wanting to know is if there is any1 on here who has been injured at work and claimed. im not one of these who claim for anything but i am in my probationary period still and i think im obly entitled to statuary sick pay, but i dont see why i should lose money because of an accident at work so if any1 can give me there views i will much appreciate it cheers
Having a shuffle at work and getting caught, panicking then falling over is hardly the grounds for a claim!
Thats soap for tyre lubrication by the way it helps the tyre slip in place
Good luck though mate

i just want to get 1 thing across to people which is by noway am i trying to line my pockets or anything like that i am just curious about peoples views as i am not very experienced in these matters
i'll put a positive spin on this story
where i work, i'd only been on the books fully official for a month before i took a drop in kiwk fit and broke my wrist (they hadn't gritted the floor, i needed tyres, it was during work hours, for work, doing my job etc)
my then boss said that i could have as many weeks off sick as i wanted but i wouldn't get paid for them
or
once i knew the wrist was ok and had had a short time to get used to it, i could come in and do "light duties", being very light as i couldn't drive so i sat in the office learning how to do other stuff
eventually i ended up with an automatic company car and i could do some driving in that and i made the effort to help out where i could and i was rewarded for my enthusiasum
plus, my injury vultures for compo who had their details printed on the backs of all the hospital appointment cards asked about if my contract extended to having my vehicle serviced or if that was someone elses's job to do
if you were doing your job, and have had the acident as a reslut of it, as an employer, they should be trying to help you as much as possible to make sure that you do turn around and sue them for the damage you've been inflicted with, loss of earning currently and any future loss of earnings if things go wrong later in life
from break to being signed off fit it was over 7 months for me, can you afford to do nothing for the next 7 months potentially in the current climate?
if it's a big company you will hopefully be in with a better chance of the light duties role, but if it's a little 2 man garage you might be a bit fucked

well i wana get straight back to work i love my job and the last thing i would do is claim against my employer as i have said i am not the type of person 2 start claiming for things as said above its comes with the job i just didnt see why i should be out of pocket 4 it but thanks every1 4 advice
If it was me i would be going in to work and trying to help out as best i could (if allowed), much like dojj did.
Putting a claim in probably wouldn't be the best of ideas considering the fact you are still on a probationary period, i would still be trying to make a good impression. In this current economic climate i would rather have a job at the end of the 6 weeks poor sick pay, than have a little bung of cash then find that the place you work at don't want you back after your probationary period.

think what everyone is missing is the poor fella basically doesnt want to be unable to work and loose wedge as its not good being skint at the best of times let alone these days.
i would go into work once you have had it all sorted. just say to your boss you wanna work even if its light work etc as you love your job.

If this injury was a fault with the employer - guards missing, no training etc - then claim away, but unfortunately many claims 'specialists' aren't bothered about who's at fault, just how much they can make.
Once upon a time people used common sense and the world got on fine. Now because of you and your co-horts we're forced to endure huge amounts of H&S bullshit, absurd restrictions and are told that there's actually no such thing as common sense.
Here's a prime example - My parents live next to a really nice park. A note has gone up on the gates that they're going to close it for a while because they're going to have to chop down the oldest trees 'in case they fall and injure someone'. Apparently someone sued the council because a branch hit them in a gale and now they're having to cut down hundreds of beautiful old trees.
The escalating claims culture is steadily eroding the country and it's only going to get worse. If you're happy to line your pockets off the back of it, then that's your decision. I know I couldn't.
as some1 has said above about doing light work i have already asked but due to being a mechanic im not insured to be on the premesis at all.lol so im stumped but cheers again for all your views
What has your boss said about it? If he's no use could be worth popping into the Citizen's Advice Bureau to see where you actually stand. Just make sure you take advice off someone impartial, not someone who stands to profit from your misfortune!
i suppose every insurance is different but after my accident i was covered and back at work the next day after a 2 and a half hour op to stitch the tendons and damaged nerves back together in my hand after the rad fan incident. light duties but still able.
what exactly have you done in your accident?
what exactly have you done in your accident?
so clearly they are insured so you should be able to get paid while you recover enough to be signed fit to work again yes?
i know that a lot of peole will say just sit at home and wait it uot, but if you are not a required part of the team then it's going to be that much easier for them to get rid of you, probabtion can have a notice period as short as one day or a week so it's not a long time

A lad at our work put his hand where he shouldn't have, no permit or isolation, and the conveyer started and he lost a finger. Cos he was in the wrong he got sacked, no compo.
