i-phone
DONT GET ONE !!!
I am totally dissapointed with my Iphone 3G
shame on Apple !
My Nokia N95 8GB is a far better all round device despite the smaller screen.
Yes the Iphone has a fantastic large touch screen but thats it unless you want to run apps of which 99% are pure shit (e.g. Ifart...LOL)
Apple are advertising the Iphone with a new feature.. video recording ... Nokia had that 5 years or more ago
Camera is shit (low res/no flash or proper zoom), texting is shit, cant use bluetooth, in built speakers are not stereo, battery life is tiny.
Only just got MMS software upgrade.
If you dont text or use the camera and keep the charger with you at all times then get one.
The only good things are the internet surfing and the maps program !
Just my 2p..LOL

Does anyone know if you can read ebooks on the i-phone? I am trying to order an amazon ebook for someone as a present and having great difficulties. Thought I may as well get them an i-phone instead as that was their other request?

RSRoy,
You can't compare the photos when you post a shrunk photo from the iPhone and a full size picture from the Samsung! I think the camera isn't as bad as people say, especially now it has auto focus (plus the touch focus and spot metering is great) and the video quality is good for a phone!

And yes, my Nokia battery life out performs the Iphone.
I have run both side by side and the Iphone needs charging every other day where the "antique" needs charging at worse every 4 days.

One thing I have noticed after switching to an Iphone 3GS is that Vodafone have far better and more reliable reception than 02... and the sound quality when talking on the Iphone is SHITE! its muffled and distorted badly sometimes in my ear on some calls....
and it NEVER works properly when I want it to! like now... just wanted to upload a photo to post on photobucket... and guess what. No celluar network connection!!! even though the phone says full service and 3g available!

I do wish people would stop going on about "what other manufacturers did years ago" (for example, Simon's remarks about video feature, and that it's only just got MMS) The iPhone does both these features, so why bother to bitch about the fact other manufacturers did them years ago? We all know this! What matters is if the phone you want DOES do them, or DOESN'T - simple!
With regard to the above, I still can't get my head round the fact that people don't see this as a ploy by Apple to sell more phones. The first comes out, everyone buys it cos it's new and fancy, get hooked on it, but wish it had 3G speeds. So the 3G comes out and everyone buys on of those. Then they wish it had MMS and video recording. So the MMS firmware is released - at the same time a new iPhone with video capability is released. Guess what? Everyone buys one of those
So Apple have essentially sold the same phone three times over - pretty clever marketing IMO!
Basically - buy the iPhone if you want comprehensive email, excellent, full, internet access (not watered down WAP like most mobile phones) and a nice and intuative, easy to use and ergonomic operating system - that on the whole is very stable and outperforms any Windows smartphone I've ever used (much like how OS X outperforms and Windows OS
) As a phone it's pretty basic. But that said, what you want from a phone? The abilty to make and receive calls? Yes, it can do that. Send and receive text messages? Yep, that too. Send and receive picture messages (as well as contacts, video files, docs, etc)? Yep, it can also do that. Apart from those - what else, as a PHONE, do you want it to do? I think the only thing it doesn't do that my Nokia did is FTP via bluetooth - which I really don't miss as it's very easy to MMS or email, or push over a wireless network. Okay, so the camera doesn't have zoom (except on the new 3GS model) but to be fair, I really don't use my mobile phone as a camera - if I want to take actual pictures I use a digital camera. And I always did, back when I had Nokia's too....
So buy one if you want the email, internet, games and iPod features - but if you don't, don't bother.

This Nokia vs iPhone vs HTC vs Pre vs b*llsh*t is going to go on for donkeys and nowhere will there ever be a straight forward answer to reasonings as to which is better and what does what and what lacks what.... Its a bit repetitive and no a tad boring
Ive had a nokia and now an iPhone. Nokia is no more, iPhone is everything! Simples.
Ok, so the lack of decent camera pixels, flash, zoom (3G) etc... as Thrush said, get a digital camera. As for most 'camera' phones, they aint true pixels anyway. The N95's so-called 5MP is worse than my FujiFilm 2MP digicam... and thats going some lol
Its all a matter of preference, as with everything in life. Cars, mates, women, phones... everyone has a different preference or use for them... again, a stupid argument being had.
I just love my iPhone. I use it more than i have any other phone... iPod at work, Net at home, plus the general use of text and calls. The battery life aint all that purely for the fact the thing is never left alone! Yes Nokias battery life is a lot greater, but then look at the size of the Nokia and look at what it can do compared to that of the iPhone.... The iphone useage is just endless. Whether its apps on appstore, using itunes on the phone, or even cydia and god knows what else. Man, need i say more?
Yes the Nokia is a really good phone, but its so last year

Again, no it's not. People seems so hung up on shit like this. So what if Apple have cleverly made a marketing ploy to make millions of dollars of profit? THEY ARE A TRADING COMPANY! THAT'S WHAT THEY DO!
You buy the product cos you like it, simple as that. Don't bitch and moan that it doesn't have a certain feature, or the battery life is shit, or it has no buttons, or you don't like the look of it, or the company that makes it earns loads of money selling it - buy cos you like it, or don't buy it cos you don't like it! It's not rocket science! If you like it, why would you NOT buy it cos Apple earn a lot of profit from it? Thats just stupid! Thats like saying you like bread, but won't buy it cos Tesco make profit from it
The problem with the iPhone is it's an Apple product. And like Apple products, it's very successful and popular. Which, like nearly all Apple products, makes it an instant target for "haters" (I hate using that term, it's so pathetic, but it was the only term that fitted) that love to jump on the imaginary band-wagon of slagging off Apple and their products.
I am not an Apple fan-boy by any means. I own an iPod and an iPhone. No Macbooks or iMacs (tho having used them I know I'd rather have one than the crappy Windows machine I do have), so I am not defending them because I'm "in love" with them. But for some reason it is seen to be cool to "hate" on Apple for some reason!
So like I said - buy a phone, or whatever product, because you like it and it has the right features for what you want. Don't buy it because it is or isn't made by whatever company, and don't buy it cos "it's cool". Likewise don't NOT buy it because it's made by whatever company, or because it's "popular" or "cool". Just buy cos you like it, or don't buy it cos it's not for you!
Sheesh.....

I quite like my iphone, its a 8gb 3g one, with the newer software. Its like anything, a bit difficult to get used to, but when you do get into the swing of it, its great. As said, its a shame it doesnt record videos etc but ipee when im drunk is great, as is ipint and its the way everything is going anyway !! Porn surfing at work= yay !!
Again, the 3G iphone is, and always has been, capable of recording video. And you'll soon get bored of the useless apps and start filling it up with useful apps which youll end up using as part of normal living ie SatNav Software, Conversion Tables, whatever really. Like i said earlier, my iphone has become part of my daily life... sounds sad I know, but it has.
Its more a case of a man who knows a lot of stuff on what he owns.

I have today JUST got my first ever Apple product, a 32GB i-phone.... I will update this thread in a few weeks as I currently have a N95, so will be in a good position to comment. What swung it for me is that no other phone has 1) Such a brilliant user interface , and 2) Very very good full internet access.
I might miss the N95's camera and a few other bits, so we will see.
I might miss the N95's camera and a few other bits, so we will see.
Funnily enough I was going to ask if you work for Nokia

The N95 is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever used. I had mine replaced, then the replacement repaired twice due to crappy vibrating earpiece speaker during calls. I sold it after the 2nd repair. Also it was the slowest, buggiest phone I've ever used. Two other people I work with had them too and both experienced the dodgy earpiece and poor running.
The early N95's had thier problems, I had mine the day it came out (original silver) , and to this day I have never had any issues with it. A lot of problems were to do with 3rd party software as far as I can remember, with Orange being a particular problem??
Mine has always been on 02, and been fantastic, and I will be keeping it as a second phone (for work as I work in a dirty/physical job so phones tend to get ruined quickly!) alongside the i-phone.
Each brand has it's merrits and flaws, it is a bit like comparing a Ferrari to a Lambo, each is fantastic for different reasons IMHO

Why are you guys now comparing the iPhone to an N95? Its not a touch screen phone and runs totally different software. At least compare like with like...
I had a play with the N97 yesterday, and to be honest I just didn't think it suited what I wanted my new phone to do as well the i-phone does, which is be a on the move internet portal. Sure the N97 is a fantastic bit of kit, as is the HTC pro touch 2, most of the blackberrys ( I had a storm for 2 weeks, cack!) and the other smart phones out there, but as a pure browsing tool (IMHO) there is nothing to touch the i-phone for it's user interface.
32GB as no one has 16GB in stock, and i'm an impatient fooker
, Black, as I am constantly dirty from pissing about with broken Hercules and Fords
...
You are welcome to come for a brew and geek me up on how to use it to it's potential
... Do you have to register on i-tunes before it comes online, as it will only make emergency calls and has been simmed up for about 6 hours now, and I have turned it on and off a couple of times to see if it fixes it, but nothing yet
