Strong possibility of relocating to Cornwall - what's St Austell like to live in? Anywhere nearby worth considering?
I don't want somewhere completely dead, but at the same time I'm not up for somewhere like Newquay - great for a weekend pissup but not so good being woken at 3 in the morning when you have work the next day!!
If I could walk to a beach to surf would be a real bonus!
Is Truro gonna be a mission on a daily basis with traffic, etc?
Ta!

St Austelll is a bit of a dive at the moment, but their in the middle of building a new shopping centre there. Should be good when done.
We're about to move in the next few weeks to a little village between St Austell and Truro.

PM if prefer. Will 99% be going to look for flat to rent this wknd, so a pointer would be an idea.
I moved down from Kidderminster about 18 months ago, I live in Padstow about 20 miles from St Austell. It takes about 30 minites to travel from here (north coast) to St Austell (south coast).
Most of the surfing seems to be mainly north coast Watergate Bay, Newquay (Fistral beach) and many places between.
Where do you live now? I find it very very quiet even in the summer compared to up country, If i stay down here i will look at a move closer to Truro that has take-aways and newsagents open after 8pm and generally an a higher average age than 90 odd.
You should find St Austell slightly more lively that over here but you must expect a big change (a lot bigger than i ever thought) and ive been coming to Cornwall most my life.
Anything else you want to know mate just ask, PM if you want.

i was in cornwall for a wedding recently at boscundle manor near st austell and had to go into town to find a sun hat and i thought it was a total dump. just outside it and around was beautiful though, especially on the coast at charlestown

and have been offered a job which will let me do so - can't think of a better place to sit out the recession really, and my current work isn't looking so clever - so much so I sold my cossie a month or so ago.Know what you mean about nowt open late, even the height of summer struggled to get some chips at 10:30, and all the curry houses are shut by 11
.Currently live in little village near Solihull (nearish brum) and its v quiet here - pub shuts @ 11 and shops @ 10, so won't be a massive change really. TBH its one of the things I'm looking forward to - clean up my act a bit and get out of the cycle of wrecker weekends my mates are all into.
Torn between being close enough to cycle to work and live in St Austell which does seem not as picturesque as I hoped the town I would move to in Cornwall would be, or to live in truro and have to drive into work..... one thing is for sure you get a LOT more property wise for your dosh in St Austell than Penryn/Falmouth where my bro is.
Is there anywhere else on coast you could recommend - being able to walk to the beach, have a bbq and a few tins and stagger back would be epic.
I've been to Fowey which seems nice but expensive and maybe too quiet. Think I'm talking myself into Truro really. Trending Topics
Love Perranporth, is that the one with the pub in the middle of the beach?
Been going over 10 years and still can't remember all the names of places.
Fowey is a lovely town too, just up from St Austell. Been going there since I was born and i'm over 30, have lots of friends there and would move ther in an instant should I be able to get work
I'll sort a job when I get there. No point in applying while house purchase going on as dates keep changing. almost got a supervisor job two months ago, good job I didn't in the end as that house fell through.
REALLY looking forward to moving there.
And becoming a pirate.
