Most of the surfing seems to be mainly north coast Watergate Bay, Newquay (Fistral beach) and many places between.
Where do you live now? I find it very very quiet even in the summer compared to up country, If i stay down here i will look at a move closer to Truro that has take-aways and newsagents open after 8pm and generally an a higher average age than 90 odd.
You should find St Austell slightly more lively that over here but you must expect a big change (a lot bigger than i ever thought) and ive been coming to Cornwall most my life.
Anything else you want to know mate just ask, PM if you want.

Cheers dude! Been going down since born as Grandparents live over towards perranporth, and my bro moved to Penryn (near Falmouth) approx 18 months ago. I've always wanted to move down, guess I'm a bumpkin at heart

and have been offered a job which will let me do so - can't think of a better place to sit out the recession really, and my current work isn't looking so clever - so much so I sold my cossie a month or so ago.
Know what you mean about nowt open late, even the height of summer struggled to get some chips at 10:30, and all the curry houses are shut by 11

.
Currently live in little village near Solihull (nearish brum) and its v quiet here - pub shuts @ 11 and shops @ 10, so won't be a massive change really. TBH its one of the things I'm looking forward to - clean up my act a bit and get out of the cycle of wrecker weekends my mates are all into.
Torn between being close enough to cycle to work and live in St Austell which does seem not as picturesque as I hoped the town I would move to in Cornwall would be, or to live in truro and have to drive into work..... one thing is for sure you get a LOT more property wise for your dosh in St Austell than Penryn/Falmouth where my bro is.
Is there anywhere else on coast you could recommend - being able to walk to the beach, have a bbq and a few tins and stagger back would be epic.

I've been to Fowey which seems nice but expensive and maybe too quiet. Think I'm talking myself into Truro really.
