i think im gonna drop the lump out and take the sump off and have a look at the big ends. shells are only Ł100 for acl race series. crank grind about Ł300 if necasarry and maybe a rod if bearing has spun in it. i suppose it could be very early signs of a failure.

she aint no dud. must be very early signs so aint gonna be much wrong in there. i will know for sure tmrw. a genuine 535 bhp r32 has gotta be worth 10k so i cant loose really. i shall ring rob monday aswell and see what he would charge.
Not 10K anymore....
It does not matter mate, it will be awesome when finished. You never get back what you put in with modified cars anyway.
Im glad you have now realised that its definately a problem that requires a strip down, Its happened to me in the past and ive always wanted to not beleive the people telling me and thats why i didnt say anything earlier.
Dont buy another engine rebuild youres, you have caught it early so wont be too much damage, they are awesome cars, just get with one reputable tuner and stick with him, Rob is awesome but i stilll like ron and would always recommend him, then id get rob to map it.
Good luck mate its a long and often expensive road...
when you get power hungry with these though its mega!!!

must be very early signs mate if it is as there is no apparant knock compared to what i know as knock when the crank is fubar. i reckon i could do it myself for Ł1k ive checked on prices of parts. but if rob will do it for around Ł3k he will get the job i think. at the worst a crank grind and 1 rod id of thought. il be happy staying at 1.5 bar for 535 bhp. it will still be cheap at 7 - 8k with a freshened up engine. cheapest 550 bhp r32 i could find was 10k maybe im looking in the wrong places ?
at least its already got all the bits to run the power.
its very hard to say from the vids tbh, but id guess at it being an early big end rumble, as you said from where you are now, get the sump off and inspect it would be the best way forward, maybe renew the oil pump while your in there aswell

i suppose it wouldnt hurt and if im not happy could still take the lump straight to rob. i need some superman xray vision so i can look in there easily
if it is that, its not to bad really, an easy thing to fix..
but if its not you could end up putting it back together the samer as it is now lol,
so do lots of diagnostic work before you strip it, to make sure you know what it is first imo, maybe let someone who sees these every day take a look and listen

open the throttle sounds perfect, i remember an old cvh orion i had and number 2 let go and that knocked harder and harder as the revs rose higher. and a cat engine just the same the noise didnt just go away. i gave it a little rag earlier and hit 7200 rpm twice and it was fine ! possibly oil pump related, pressure is down a bit, but i cant see how the pump could make that noise.
Why dont you stop guessing and posting videos on the internet and just take it someone who knows Skylines??? Perhaps the guy who mapped it if he knows it so well?
I am guessing it was sold for 4K for a reason? Assuming it was the person that had it modified sounds like they got out of it because they knew what was wrong and needed doing and the likely cost??
Awesome cars though. Had one about 10 years ago and loved it. Hope you get it sorted.

just asking peoples views as theres quite a few knowledgable people on here. it was sold for Ł4k beacause the guy needed the cash quick and was worried about what was causing the noise.
if youve got nothing constructive to say dont post !
Hope you get it sorted

im not worried in the slightest but ive been caught before with heavy machinery when its stripped to bits and then you wish you had done more tests before hand. too late once its stripped to bits mate.
im a mechanic by trade on big cat machinery and ive done a couple of petrol engines. ive heard engines with a variation of problems knocking, cracked pistons, camwear etc. but this noise i have i cant put my finger on it ? you can soon spend Ł4k on a Ł1k job you see.

Ł300 fort a crank grind, i had my cossie one done for Ł50 just on the big end journals.
Just take it to someone who knows these engines mate. Chances are it will be diagnosed in 2 minutes properly. Fairly sure one of the big Skyliner tuners would have heard a knocking bottom end before on one so will give you an answer.
Personally I would be doing that 10 times before even thinking about dropping engines out or taking the sump off etc.
Like I said. Hope you get it sorted.
EDIT: Just seen you have taken it 3 places already and had 3 differing opinions. Thats a bit more worrying I guess.

I know what you mean about not wanting to throw money at a problem untill you know what it is...
Sad with bearings you cant find out with out striipping it down easily...
But there is one more route you can try, oil analysis.
There are a few places that can analyse oil for any metal contamination (bearing material is easy to spot).

well me and mate had a look today. deffinateley something coming from sump but very quiet and only now and then. gonna get a price of rob tweenie tmrw for a freshen up and go from there.
was out in my mate R33 GTR last night and his 100% defo runs 7 bar oil pressure when cold
2.5bar oil pressure @hot idle and soon as you rev it 4bar+ all the way up the rev range
