Default How to test the BHP of your car?

Ive got a golf gt tdi but not sure if its been remapped as it picks up really well even being the 110bhp model (old 1998 model)

I think im going to test the 1/4 mile tomorrow, regarding its time it should be quite apparent on the results ..

I'll be using the iphone and dynolicious software, when i tested my pug 306 dt it was bang on to a few 10ths/s by the book figures

I dont want to pay for a remap if its already been done ...

I guess there is no other way to tell really, so let me get this software installed and I will report back tomorrow

To be honest, there's so many variable factors in a 1/4 mile time, that I wouldn't trust it at all, driver/tyres being the worst ones.

Surely there must be a way of telling the boost. Either measure mechanically or use VW software to read the ECU.

My last prognosis was mint, i used this software with a standard 306 xldt and the 1/4 mile was bang on bar within 2/10 of a second

installing it now, will see what my 1/4 mile is tomorrow, then we might be able to take an accurate guess as to whether the car is modded or not

I think the Dynolicious works mint, my mate has it and when i tried it on my Bora it was pretty bang on! Was also bang on with his Escort too!

All you got to do is get the engine code and we will be able to tell u what engine it is! Check the history etc. Or the sticker in the boot.

As stated, I know the engine is 110bhp (81kw or whatever) but I want to know if it has a different map on it as someone stated.

Tried calling Raid in Germany yesterday to try and get a loom for this tuningbox but couldnt get through.

Might drop them an email.

As for people stating the obvious (rr), why spend 20-60 quid on a rr session when I have software on my phone that will give me an accurate enough reading anyway

It's true, why bother spending Ł100,000+ on an RR for your workshop when you could have exactly the same for Ł300!

Just drive a 110 version.
I've the 110 passat of same age, had it chipped, and could tell the second I pulled away how much different it was.
There's a massive difference.
Dog slow standard, sounds like yours isn't.

Thats pretty unusual. They have adaptive ECUs and you usually get told not to notice an instant change. It develops as you drive.

Once it has changed, if you drive one and a standard one right after each other you;d tell.

You'll tell if the 110 has been remapped as soon the Dual mass flywheel and clutch will shit itself.

Been there - done that - wont do it again!

Not to mention the suspect heads that crack and blow coolant out when you give it a caning!

Well was left running for a good while to adapt a bit.
If boost is set a lot higher will be immediate effect surely, just adaptions to iron things out etc.

Don't think the 98's have dual mass do they?
Can feel pulsing on the clutch pedal, thought dual mass was to eliminate that?
Must admit I know VERY little about diesels.

Extremely simple. Just ask your tuner to look at the map Stu.

Hi Stu

I dont have a tuner, its a 2k car that I wondered if I can get better fuel economy and power out of it Otherwise I would be booking it into your good self (still might!)

Rain has stopped play, and work stopped play today. Ive got the 2.1 software ready to rock and roll.

Results WILL be posted soon (not tonight), and yes (Shorty) take that as a lesson to NOT jump to perfect scenario conclusions on a cheap banger
