Default Missfire

Hi all I have just developed a intermittent missfire when I come on boost in the 3 door
Some times its there sometimes it aint
I dont know where to start but at the same time my fuel pump now primes for bang on
14 seconds if the engine is of and earlier it cut out completely
the fuel pump cut out and wouldnt make any noise
I fiddled with the wires nothing opened the bonnet ,didnt touch any thing
turned the ign on the fuel pump primed for bang on 14 secs then I started as normal
Its all got to be linked
Oh and when it misses it stinks of petrol
Where do I start
Opened up the dizzy and the arm is a red 1 I thought they were black

What are your plugs gapped to? And what sort of condition are they in?

I'm going with plugs too.

Your pump doesn't always need to prime for 14 seconds - if the fuel system is up to pressure it only primes for a fraction of a second.

Right it looks like the ect sensor has gone

and now all the checking of the phase has screwed that today all the plastic has gone

and the wires are all corroded and fraying apart could this be the cause of all my problems

Phase sensor sounds goosed if the wires are bare and corroded. A new one will probably sort it. Worth Ł20 to try it

Trial and error with something like a missfire though mate. And at least at the end of it if you have changed a few bits you know they are new and shouldnt give you any further problems for a while.

If you put new plugs in at 20thou and its still the same, change phase sensor, if still the same change the crank sensor (you could try taking it off and just cleaning the end of it with a rag first rather than replacing it, because they do get oily etc)

I gap my plugs to 0.58mm

Phase should be 0.2 - 0.3mm bud.

Let us know how you get on.

if it runs better with the act unplugged could that be the fault ie, giving a false reading to the ecu but when no reading at all it will go to a base setting.
Could be wrong as its just a guess.

try an act sensor on it if its running better without, also if you can, try a map sensor on it if one of your mates has one you can steal off their car just to try
