get the std cam and lifters, cheaper than a piper/kent/newman kit and will outlast kent/piper by miles, also youll retain the low down grunt from the std cam.

Crap advice! Always change them together. It may sound fine for a couple of hundred miles but the cvh's dont have to make a load of noise to be munching on the cam/tappets

Do not do this!!!
The Cam and Lifters must be ran in together as they work harden in the first 20mins, if you fit new lifters with an old Cam then the lifters will be ripped apart in no time at all! Same goes for fitting a new Cam to old lifters (Cam will be destroyed).
This is not to say that it will 100% of the time there is always an exception but why risk it?! Nobody wants swarf going round their engine

As for a recommendation........... Newmans with solids or if money is tight, stanadard Cam/Lifters from any motor factors less than Ł100 and just as likely to last/not last as any other hydraulic setup.

I have changed lifters without changing the cam before and never ever had a problem. Am i right in thinking it is only the cam that gets work hardend thats why they come specially coated? (with the exception of the newman where you done need to run them in)

If a product has been proven to be good why not use it, me and Jambo got our Newman cams long before alot of people on here (2003 for me).

Its like GRS coolers, they work well so thats why the big powered cars use them.

cant comment for anyone else on here but i got ma newman in 2002 when no one was using them and was testing them for AVA,over the piper it made gains everywhere in the rev range, thats proven and seen it with my own eyes,i will agree with u to the extent that if its not pf approved then its deemed shit,i had my cam long b4 anyone on this site and was never spoken about until one of the so called tribe got theres and then it became the dogs danglies, but i can say that my newman cam perfrmed better than the kent and piper i had befre hand

out of interest which cam do u run???

just a quick note to 2s2mk1frst not sure what cam to go for as i aint decided myself yet lol. just one thing i would change on your spec is the backbox on your scorpion exhaust , just changed mine as they are very restrictive as they are actually 1 3/4 diameter inside when the pipe is 2.5 inch!!! just changed mine and it made a noticable difference turbo spools up about 250rpm lower and im running same spec as you except ive got a full front pro alloy cooler. the rest of the scorpion system is fine by the way!

Run a piper 285t2 came with the car, i read the cam posts purely for other peoples views but it gets, you must have this cam this intercooler etc if you are happy with your car be happy, mine does trackdays sprint days and the like always makes me smile and that is the main thing. Its not about out and out power and see how fast it goes in a straight line put it round some corners thats when i becomes fun.

PaulT

ps my car is full of no no's according to this forum as i have a bigvalve head, 0.48 housing on my turbo, a piper 285t2cam, scorpion exhaust with right backbox, chargecooler and a 57i k&n gave 196 flywheel with 14 psi nice and gearbox friendly.

paul t i respect what you are saying about forum talk and there is a lot of shit spouted about but next time your near your car just shine a torch into your tailpipe and you will see what i mean there is no way a pipe that small can flow air well on a turbo car!!!
but thumbs up to everything else you said

Personally i would stick with the standard profile at that spec.
I spent a load of time and money fitting a Kent cvh35 to mine, along with a load of headwork and gained next to bugger all...

newmans with soild lifters, i'm using 1 in an cvh xr2 (phase2 cam) with 40s, head work ect and goes really well cam only really kicks in at about 3.5k but revs to just over 7k.
also using one in the turbo again with soild lifters and from a near standard engine (air filter, exhaust, front mount) after fitting made 13 bhp more and rev that bit harder.

the only thing is that the lifters are a pig to do so if your not doing it your self could cost quite abit just to set the lifters up.
