Default Cossie smoking advise please

After you boot my car it smokes when you put your foot back down
whats a common cause for this? the turbo has no play it feels mint
but could the seal in it be knackered , breather issue ? valve stem oil seals?

Breathing or mapping, either way I wouldn't worry about it unless its smoking constantly on full load

its quite bad dave & annoying as well .

what i was saying is that if the turbo has no play is it possible for the seal to fail

can only hazard a guess

try overrunning down a long hill, and give it a boot at the bottom, if it puffs out blue its likely to be worn guides or stem seals

if it really bothers you and you're using shit loads of oil, then i would start with the cheapest, like a rebuild on the turbo, circa Ł200 (assuming only seals and a balance)

then i would start looking at worn oil rings, but these dont show on a comp test, so if you're gonna pull it apart you might as well give it a refresh

Cheers, Matt

I'd check the inlet plenum elbow for signs of oil if there is some in there take the compresor to cooler pipe off and check there if oil is coming out of compressor if there is then its turbo

A sticky oil residue is normal but oil drips is a problem as it collects in cooler and on boost chucks it into manifold which then when u let off creates vaccum and sucked in by engine and burn't

I know its a different application... but my DC2 Integra TypeR was doing similar and I replaced the valve stem seals which cured the problem.

As well as giving it large into VTEC and then allowing it to come down on over-run and putting foot back down, I found that sitting on the spot revving to the high to mid rpm-range, letting it run down a couple of 1000 rpm and blipping the throttle was producing a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust.

Cheers,
Grant
