Default New RS owner! problem!

my rs idles at 1000rpm when starting then it sits about 900rpm once idle and getting warm then it seem to try and bring the idle down once getting warmer then it will get to below 900rpm and cut out.

also does it when it when putting the clutch in when slowing for traffic just when the car comes to a stop just drops below 900rpm and cuts..

dont know if icv needs cleaning or it idleing to low.

cheers Smithy

Welcome to hell

Sounds like an air leak to me, spray WD40 around the joining areas after the throttle body and if you hear the revs pic up theres an air leak at that point. Also check all the breather pipes and the rubber seal in the filler oil cap

have you tried adjusting the idle throttle position.
to me it sounds as if it's been idling a little high, so it's had the idle screw fully wound in so it drops the idle a little, just try unscrewing the big screw under the throttle body and try it again.
mine did this when i got it.

as above, welcome to hell lol

Hate to be a negative nancy and shit on your parade as a new rs owner. Glad to hear you got it sorted with the idle screw, however, I would check your oil pressure as well. Mine started doing the same thing, but after adjusting the screw for the third time I found out my big ends where on thier last legs cauing oil pressure to drop drasticly. Its just that you mentioned putting the clutch in when coming to a stop would cut off the engine.
Worth a look, better to be safe then sorry and all that.

hmm my didnt ever knock lol, they never got that bad, i caught it early
I took my car to nearby garage that im pretty friendly with and borrowed theirs. If the oil pressure light on your dash works fine they can often ever so slightly flicker when oil pressure is low when idling.

well thats why i thought i would mention getting it checked.

cos when my idle started to cut a so called "expert" on rs turbo's told me it would just be the oil scoop in the sump would be gunked up. so took the sump off and the mesh in the scoop was slightly stodgy. Then had the car ready to go to the tuners and it started doing it again. Swung into my regular garage and they checked the oil pressure and informed me i had about 4-5 months left before big ends gave up.
Took the engine out and stripped it down and it was in a right state :s

sorry if im causing stress!

well once i had the engine out i notcied the block had a fracture in the front of it
So I ended up doing a full rebuild while it was out, gearbox turbo the lot. so ended spending ŁŁŁŁ's!
But the bottom rebuild wasn't to expensive, cant remember exact ammount, couple of hundred like
Didnt want to think about the price of everything cos on a full rebuild it can get depressing if you start counting recipts lol

ahh I should think so.
well now you've said that its most likely a run in niggle. Mind you if youve done 1180 miles id say its ready for a quick service then a tune up! if there was an issue then the tuners would surely find it on diagnostics.

ahh thats good then, yeah the 1k service is important incase any crud has dislodged by snug new components.
well now the engine is run in etc i would reccomend a tune up. As it is a relatively new engine its hard to tell if everything is working as it should be with everything else sorta thing.
You'd be amazed how much difference it can sometimes make! (When i first got my erst i had it dyno'd and it was only running 90bhp!! and half hour later on the rollers it soon had 135bhp)
Im waiting to get some spare money to get mine done as it has a load of new engine mods and its only been roughly set up to make it driveable for the 1k run in, like the boost turnt down etc.

the running in period is around 1000 miles.
For example I take mine to northampton motorsport, they run a quick diagnostic to check everything is sound. then as said above the will adjust boost, fueling, airflow, timing so works just as it should.

same thing happend to me, dont adjust yourself.

go down to a good tuner and get it set up on the rollers. sounds like the fuel mixture is shit.

go down to a tuner mate.
