If you own a concourse car surley you would know

As said visit a detailing web site.

Detailed obsession is best.

Just be weary, so people get very opinionated so much so that your bombarded with so much "information" that you end up getting confused.
As there are simply so many products out there and so many ways of doing things.

People will say all sorts of things but you dont have to spend a fortune on products like some will tell you. Its more the knowledge and application thats are the "expensive" things.

I was a valeter for 6 years and one thing I did learn is the polish etc. is only as good as you get on with it, Autoglym do have some nice products but I got in very well with the general stuff I used from Nielsons.

I tend to use Poorboys and Dodo juice products on my panther black ford, i have a Megs G220 DA Polisher which opens up a whole world of extra products you can use. To be truely concouse you will have to go down the machine polishing route to get paint correction, its hard work but its worth it, took me 50hours to paint correct my car, and that does not include waxing, cleaning claying etc

You'd think so wouldn't you, but every Ford concours show I've been to over the years (both as an entrant and observer) the cars that had totally swirl free paint are very few and far between.

I've got to ask - 50hours? Can you give a few details (no pun) on why it took so long. I'm not being funny or anything, I'm just interested to hear what steps you used - not for myself, just a general curiosity

50hrs does seem alot but i suppose if you was going for perfection it adds up.

Think the most i have spent was 20-22hrs but this was a audi s2 estate, took 3hrs for 2 of us just on claying stage.

I dunno why but it IS really interesting reading and seeing other peoples stories on cleanyourcar and detailingworld about the cars they're doing. I got myself a G220 polisher and have done a bit myself. Im no pro but the results you get are really good with a machine! I particularly like this thread on detailingworld, as its an Esc Cos paint correction:

I used my car a a carp fishing wagon and its been through a few hedges in its life!! Its covered in RDS so its taken a serious amount of time to get these out of the top coat, im sad to say some of them are too deep to remove but i have achieved a 90% perfect finish i belive. Being a DA too it takes twice as long as a rotary for a correction as its safer. Im no expert im still learning but 50 hours being carful is better than a strike through.
You can only really do a correction like this maybe twice on a car in its life depending on how much paint/clear has to be removed, if i was to do a car twice i would take paint depth readings all over the car to see what im working with
