the basic truth is that cheap 'unknown' ones have greater chance of breaking under strain.

What one did you just buy?

Most would say Original Ford, Felpro, Cometic are the ones to go for, inc. Payen

Theres a lot of gaskets for £24! And if the rocker gasket is rubber, that doesnt leave a lot of money left for the rest of the gasket set...

If I was you, i'd buy another headgasket and just use the rest out of that pack.

Original Ford H/Gasket - £41
Felpro H/Gasket - £31

must say that only to use the Ford HG, you won't get a better gasket ( proven to +360bhp )

in easy terms, thats paying £30-£40 compared to paying around £1k for a possible rebuild.

I know which one I'd choose

Got my Ford gasket coming tomorrow. Cost me £36.76 + vat

Here is quote and part numbers for the head gasket and head bolts from ford. Quote from Ford parts UK i got a couple weeks ago

Escort RS Turbo Series 2)-Head Gasket
Part Number: 1658584(QTY1)
Retail Price: £36.76
You Pay: £31.25

Escort RS Turbo Series 2)-Head Bolts
Part Number: 6088344(QTY10)
Retail Price: £4.22each
You Pay: £3.59each

Def use genuine gasket. Even if you caught the gasket before it damged the engine you will would need to buy head bolts again and thats price of the genuine gasket alone plus then you would need the new gasket.

We recently re built my friends engine and we got the head gasket set and just binned the head gasket that came with it and used genuine ford one and used all the other gaskets that came in the head set.

You cant go wrong with genuine ford, taking into account they were specifically built for that car in question and have been used from day one! If they were pants, Ford wouldnt use them

daviddunlop83, How did you manage to get the parts cheaper? FordPartsUK not part of Ford Parts dept. then?

Its not part of ford as far as i know. You can go onto thier website www.fordpartsuk.com and submit enquiry for parts quotes i think (im not 100% sure how yo do it from website as i have email address for him) for quotes for parts delivered to your house.

They offer discount on all ford parts and they have some parts no longer available to main ford dealers.
