Thumbs up top end rattle

had a rattle on my top end of my s2 rst escort, so went out and changed the cam to a new kent cam cvh 34, with a new set of tappets, oil pressure reads 20psi on idle and over 40psi when revs are at 3000rpm, and there is still a similar tapping noise coming from the top, any ideas why?

Yes it can, had this myself But his oil pressure should be low if it's shells also.

Did you run the cam in properly?

cam was run in properly 20mins at 2500rpm, is it a dodgy cam? the car was warmed up first before reading pressure gauge. 20psi at idle just over 40psi when revved at 3000rpm. the pressure never dropped. help me please!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????

always wondered what neighbours must think when you are running in a cam. RS Turbos are usually plenty loud enough at idle let alone at 2krpm for 20 mins lol

I have know a few people who have built N/A cvh`s and when running gave a top end rattle but only when it was slighlty warm to hot. After weeks of faffing about, it was discovered that the pistons being rough cast on the crown had a little more meat than normal. As the piston heated and expanded it was kissing the combustion chamber, this sounded identical to a noisey cam

Na, it was quite obvious once the head was off, it must have been a poor batch of pistons that hadnt beed dressed properly on the crowns, was a pain in the arse removing the unwanted material with the engine still in the car
