Default cat converters

would a blocked cat really stop my my tdci from boosting , the turbo,s going back to the guy who rebuilt it in Birmingham so he can check the vnt and weather there stuck open or closed, one thing i did notice after taking the turbo off was the actuater spring felt far to weak.. and im gona take the cat off and replace it as there only £80.00 the cats done 60000 and when i take it off is there anything i can look for that will say its fooked? one guy told over fueling can fook them up so a snapped compressor shaft will have sent alot of oil thru the cat

blocked cat would deffo stop it...... be like covering the end of your exhaust.

and overfueling would be one cause, as would oil.

was thinking of bypassing the egr , the only thing with the de cat is you would have to mess about every year putting it back on dont you as in mot? its the oil in the intercooler pipes that bothers me if the cat was blocked i suppose that would put pressure on the system wouldn't it? i cleaned the intercooler and all pipes b4 putting the new turbo on so the oil has deff come from the sump and not b4 the old turbo blew up.. ive sent the new turbo back this morn as im sure the vains (vnt) arnt working correctly and when i felt the strength of the acuater it felt way to easy to push the spring in so i think thats one of the reasons the turbo stopped all together

just a quick question on the egr, i was reading you can put a ball bearing in the vacuum tube that goes to the egr this stops it working but you need to now that the valve is closed b4 hand what do peeps think to this method? consider as well that on a focus tdci the egr is inbuilt into its own manifold ,

why would you bypass the EGR ???

its job is to reduce emissions,,, cant see the benifit tbh considering how it works

also decat, that improves performance ill agree but what happens MOT time ?

maybe im getting old

you cant mate the cats part of the exhaust, the turbo manifold bolts directly onto it and the turbo is one piece with the exhaust manifold part of the turbo

the turbo sits just inches away from the cat

will have to dig out the thread on the other site about the egr there is a good reason for it.

i would still give it a quick blast with it off, at least you can see if it comes on boost or not, otherwise it would be a pisser buying a new cat & not needing it.
if you want i can get your turbo tested to check the calibration of the VNT mech.
