Default new cars not right.

Hi. Today i finaly got my cossie. Its a 89 rwd saph and its the first ive owned. However on driving home when i tryed putting my foot down the car seamed to cut out for a second and then start again on and off. It starts just after the turbo feels like its come in and continuse untill i ease off the power. It climbs through the revs fine if i dont put my foot down much. I went into my local cosworth spiecalist(pjmotorsport) and they said it sounds like either electical problem or that the boost is set to high and its blowing the spark out.Unfortunatly they didnt have time to have a look so its booked in on the 3rd. I dont really want to drive round like a fanny till then so i was wondering how i would go about turning the boost down myself, and then taking it to them to sort it proper in 2 weeks as booked. How do i do this and how far should i turn it.
cheers.

The amal valve should be loacated on the top left of the intercooler and have 3 hoses which come off it, it is about 40mm round and 25mm high. it shouls also have a plug that goes into the top of it which is 2 wires.

Disconnecting the amal valve will force the car to run low boost, in doing so you'll find out if your hitting the boost limit or if you have other problems

Now it f**ked. Over heated and when i had a look one of the coolant hoses is now leaking big time. Wont hold any coolant at all. Oh and it still cut on and off with amal valve diconnected before it died. Ive had the car 12 hours and it wont go and the abs light keeps coming on

Cosworths are prone for ABS problems you need to remove and clean all the sensors and then see if it's ok if not you need to trace the fault sensor, replace the coolant hose and fill it up with the correct mix of antifreeze. do a compression test and post the results, overheating has nothing to do with the boost the car may have been misfiring dur to headgasket faliure or any other reason but boost pressure is not the cause of your problems

I had the exact same problems when i had my cossie. The first week of ownership and it blew a coolant hose, had to be towed home by the AA. Fixed that and then it decided to over boost.

It was really disheartening but don't let it get you down. All problems can be fixed, so keep at it.

I took my car for its first decent drive last week after solving a seiries of problems and i had an awsome laugh in it. So don't let it get you down.

By the way this board is awsome for advice, the amount of help i've had is brilliant, eveyones really helpful. Especially PJay, he's a gooden
