Filled in the online form yesterday afternoon for my Clio 172, 10am this morning I had a quote via txt for my insurance which was very competitive.
Rang up to verify this and to tell them that my vehicle wasnt kept at home, but in a lockup 4 miles away.....gave them the postcode which is in a slightly different postcode area to where I live (L37 as opposed to PR8).....the response....sorry sir we dont cover any of Liverpool!!!
It was all going so well as well!!!

Hi Lee,
Sorry about that - To remain competitive our Underwriters do exclude historically unprofitable postcode areas from our specialist schemes.
Just an idea, but if our quote is really competitive could the vehicle be re-located to your PR8 address?
Kind regards
Tony

Nope that isnt an option I'm afraid - why should I have to do this when there are other insurance companies out there that will quite happily insure me no matter where the vehicle is kept.
Anyway my existing insurance company matched your quote so decided to stay with them!
I think perhaps your underwriters need to re-evaluate what areas they cover before they lose you business.

Hi Lee,
Thanks for the feedback buddy.
As a broker we purely earn a commission for placing risks and as you have identified, Underwriters exclusions do lose us business from customers like you that we do want to cover. It's particularly annoying in cases like yours when geographically you're only a mile or two away from your original postcode (ie. PR8 southport is really close to L37 Formby), but with the specific quote that we gave the Underwriter concerned excludes most "L" postcode areas.
We are expanding our panel of Underwriters to boost both our coverage and ranges of products that we can offer and we hope our broader range of Insurers to be available in the first quarter of next year.
Our main specialist schemes can cover pretty much any modification (inc nitrous/roll cages) for high performance vehicles, they are well established with us but do exclude specific individual area's/vehicle models that have historically performed badly for 3 consecutive years.
I can understand as to why they exclude certain problematic issues based upon their own respective experience, they do this rather than having to subsidise poor performing areas by loading the average rate.
But clearly there is a rate for everything and we are souring further Insurers to improve our presence, so hopefully we'll be able to help you and your fellow members that we couldnt this time around.
Kind regards & best wishes
Tony
Ps. I'm glad that our rate was enough to convince your existing Insurers to improve their offer, it's just a shame that they didnt offer you the best they could do first time around.

Many thanks for trying us.
Your username made it easy to track your application, which I have reviewed.
The only reason that we could not source terms for you was due to our Underwriters not looking to provide the agreed value level requested by you.
I'm glad that you've been able to find what you needed with Flux, who have been a modified car specialist for some 35+ years now.
Sorry we couldnt help on this occasion.
Kind regards
Tony

Thanks PA SJO,
After this thread (which seems like the trader equivalent of being 'cluster bombed') i'm thinking of taking a job at the United Nations.
The problem is that if we can't do exactly what a member wishes, in the way they wish it regardless of their risk profile or circumstances we're instantly chastised or regarded as rubbish. Data protection legislation also often leads to episodes being left open to biased interpretation with only one version of events being published, which is again frustrating.
We do always look to use customer feedback to improve our operation and are genuinely trying to trade by supporting the forum along with it's community both financially and with providing technical advice.
With our being present here in a visible interacive way we do represent a tangeable target and this type of thread does lead us to question our involvement as to whether maintaining a forum presence is viable, worth the hassle or public chastisement that comes with this kind of liaison.
What I can confirm is that there is not an Insurance provider in the land who represent all things to all men and can cater competitively with the right cover for every risk profile, especially when it comes to high performance or modified vehicles combined with other types of vehicle.
I do understand that forums can be fickle and with something so subjective as Insurance in which our current Underwriters cannot cater for certain risks, or will carry out due diligence and not just rubber stamp agreed values we are in the firing line on some occasions.
We are here as a trader and throughout our time here we have always looked to provide advice to everyone who requires assistance regardless as to whether they are with Greenlight.
It's always disappointing where we could not help some of you, or did not meet the expectations of what you required. What you also have to remember is commercially, we purely get paid for placing risks as opposed to declining risks so clearly we always look to help as many people as possible.
Our not being able to assist, or for cases in which we prove uncompetitive this isnt anything personal and should not be regarded or taken as such. Rating acceptance or term application will always be based upon our respective range of Underwriters' individual historic experience.
We are always looking to improve our offerings and now that we have successfully integrated our latest internal operating system we have began to process of adding several new Insurers to our available range to boost our coverage.
These will come to fruition over the next few months and will lead to our being able to help more of you.
On a personal front, i've been involved with the Passion Ford community for around 7 years now (prior to previous crash & restart back in the day). It's a vibrant community with some really really good people that i've encountered along the way, who i'm personally glad to have been involved with.
Kindest regards
Tony

Tony- Unfortunately the internet has bred a culture where it's just far too easy to bang the keys and throw out all kinds of comments without remotely contemplating the consequences.. It's good to see that it is possible for some traders to wallow through the mud and still hold their head high. I am still on the fence about trading on here but this is a positive push for me.
