Unhappy focus rev's high

hey,my 1.6 1998 focus developed a fault during the weekend,as soon as u turn the engine on it revs to bout 3500rpm and stays there,if you try and rev it the revs go up then slowly return to 3500,the manifold is also glowing red hot after bout 2 minutes, could it be my idle control valve as the car runs ok wen your doing anything over 40mph above 3000rpm.

Yea id say so. Either replace it or give it a clean out with some carb cleaner.

Sounds to me like its sticking open. You may also have an air leak after the air flow meter. Disconnect the air flow meter and start the engine, see if it is still the same. You will need to disconnect the battery for a few mins afterwards to reset the fault code in the ecu though
