Default Porsche Specialists

Hi,
I have a problem with a 2006 Cayman(2.7), in that it is very iffy low down with a jittery unresponsive throttle, it's just had a service, full p/gb history with 28,000 miles on it.
Porsche dealer in Herts said it most likely the maf, but couldn't confirm it.
I am sure there is a independant porsche specialist around Bedford, where the car lives, does anyone know this for certain or any other porker specialist independants ?
Thanks,
tabetha

The porsche couldn't even tell him, despite paying a diagnostic fee, so I told him to get this money back.
He has it booked in now at a independant in Kempston, called auto 2000 or something, been going since 1985, so must be doing something right.
Porsche has said it will contribute towards cost if done at official porsche place, but they are £500 from porsche, around £150 aftermarket for same one!!

quite right - why pay for a service that you haven't received?

Autostrasse in Coggleshall (Colchester) are Porker specialists. Might be worth cleaning the MAF sensor out first though as it sounds similar symptoms to a friends boxster s and it was that.

Yes but the mechanic used some time on the car to check it, and time is money. I know it isn't fair, but it is the same if you have a computer problem. You call an the man, he search but don't find the problem, and then you still have to pay.

Thanks for all the comments, I have passed this lot on, but awaiting porsche's response to paying/contributing towards cost first.
I said just clean the maf first, but car is 75 miles from me, it's going in this week, so will let you know how it gets on, I told him to get a 996!!
I just wished he had got a cossie, but he's a bit too much don't want to get his hands dirty type, ie office waller, he's doing a robin hood, fully electric though, and seems pretty eager so far!!

might do, seeing as it's based on the Toerag but unlikely as the CAN controller is likely to programmed to porsche spec rather than VW

Nick, think your getting confused. Its a Cayman not Cayenne. You cant use VAG-COM on a Cayenne though.

To be fair to whoever you took the car to MAF problems can manifest themselves in SO many different ways it's not even funny.

I have had lots of instances of faulty MAF that haven't flagged fault codes in the ECU, I personally keep a couple in my tool box to swap out though.

You could try un plugging the MAF and seeing how it runs, normally reverts to a basic map and will run good enough to rule out the MAF as the problem. Other than that I had a Cayman S with a faulty fuel pump and was causing a slight misfire but that was in mid/upper range with heavy throttle.

In Porsche sense are the MAF's all the same throughout the range (ie - would a MAF for my Boxster S be the same as a 2.5 Boxster or Cayenne etc??)

Mine seems to have a couple of minor flatspots at around 3800rpm and 5200rpm (only minor) in certain gears at light throttle so was going to clean / replace the MAF?

If that was an independant I'd agree with you, but a main dealer shouldn't charge if they can't find the fault.

Bollocks! I took my transit to ford to have the speed limiter removed. He couldn't do it, i didn't pay. He was apologetic, i said no worries. Simple!?
