Yes but the mechanic used some time on the car to check it, and time is money. I know it isn't fair, but it is the same if you have a computer problem. You call an the man, he search but don't find the problem, and then you still have to pay.
If that was an independant I'd agree with you, but a main dealer shouldn't charge if they can't find the fault.
