Baffled/gated big capacity sumps.
Any help on this would be much appreciated lads. Anyone got any decent input on this topic?

i know the standard sump is supposed to be quite efficient (as i have heard from nms chaps)
i have still opted to have my sump baffled and gated
recently modded this to be a bolt in affair, to ease cleaning if the worst happens

Yes Gus. It's something that I should have looked at and IIRC you're on a very similar suspension set up to me (MEF), you'll also need.
Unfortunately it's too late for my engine.
Time to get it all up and running on all the fancy bits now.

Find it very hard to see how you got oil surge/starvation on the road.I've never has a problem on trackdays and I'm running slicks. And until recently I used a low power engine for 12 years,so the only way I could run with the big power boys was to carrying hugh speed thru the corners. You sure it was'nt a oilpump on the way out???When I got my new engine built at NMS,I asked Karl about a baffled sump (as he knows my car is used only on track) and he told me I didnt need one,as Ford did a good job in design in the 1st place.Regards,Micky
The CVH engine is a bizarre engine for oil flow into the sump. After studying the std design and trying new designs we returned to the original design. It can be improved using one small baffle plate near the pick up that we silver solder into place, but other than that std sump and pick up with the factory windage tray still in place is 100% spot on, including track days on slicks!!
Yes Rick, I have fucked at least 1 of my Farndon rods.
I have thought of the accusump too. Something I may look at.
I must have a bit of an odd one then. Unless I kept the oil level at least on the max mark, I could get the oil light to come on, on bends both left and right hand and then go out the moment I get the car straight again. Thats is on 215 Eagle F1s on the road, coilovers and other fancy suspension stuff set up by Danny at Adrenaline. If it dropped down to the mid way point between min and max, the light would come on on bends. I HAD to keep it on max permenantly.
I'd just like to be able to have a bit of leeway in case I do happen to lose a little bit of oil and don't notice immediately.
The only reason why my engine has failed is because I have had the light come on several times and accelerated the wear on the crank bearings and the oil pump gears. I also assumed that my slightly noisy lifter rattle was my lazy tappet when in fact, it was a warning sign that the oil pressure could have been low but because I knew I had 1 lazy lifter every so often, I didn't think to put an oil pressure gauge on it and check!

Daz,
The symptoms you have are not normal for a CVH. Are you using the S1 sump or later revised sump with full length windage tray? Are you using a S1 or S2 oil pump?
The actual belly of the cvh sump and pick up pipe are excellent in terms of preventing oil starvation as the position of the pick up is just about spot on for both left and right hand corners!

Tony, it's always been run on either 10w40 or 15w50 fully synthetic.
Karl, the oil pump was an S1 oil pump with S1 crank (early crank on early pump). Regarding the sump, I am unaware of what tray is in it as it was a replacement sump. This could be the issue if the sump doesn't have the baffles and tray in the correct place or size. I will take some photos of it once I get it off. The engine will be out tomorrow night so I will come back armed with photos. While the engine is apart, I may get the head over to you for a going over if you don't mind? It's one of your modified heads so I'd like you to check it over and do anything it may need.
Rick, I'll just send them back to Farndon and let them inspect them. If they say I need a new one, I'll get a new one. I just want it right again.

Karl,
Having removed my sump, I have found that there is no baffle at all in there! Only a windage tray! All my bearings are fucked, at least 1 if not 2 rods are fucked.
Rick,
I need your assistance if you can help. See your private messages!
