Default anyone drove a 996 carrera ?

what they like to drive, are they slow and boring ect or do they still have some poke ?

another option of cars im dreaming of owning in about 30 years is one of these, just cause they seem to be getting a good price for what they are

I've driven a flappy paddle C4S, and have been driven in a C2....

C2 felt like M3 pace tbh, but I LOVED the C4 just felt the total package. Could live with it everyday no worries

Normal 911 (996) drives almost exactly like a boxster but cost you about 8-10k more for the same sort of age
When i had my Boxster s i test drove a couple of 996 and u get 50bhp more for the extra cost and 2 rear seats and thats basically it

You want something like this
under 12k from a good dealer (bought 2 off this guy)

Driven a variety of Carreras and personally I have preferred the 2wd variants. 993 prices are rocketing but a 996 C2 can still be had for reasonable money. As has been mentioned above a Boxster gives the same enjoyment at a lower price. Forget the poor mans Porsche bullshit that illinformed folk bandy about the Bxster is an awesome car. Given the choice I would take one over a 996/993 anyday.

911 is quite a bit more spacious than a boxster though, which may be important to someone.

Think you've highlighted the wrong word there pal

He most certainly does have the intention of considering one it seems, though I have tried to persuade him otherwise. TVR for the win!

ginge!i give up
mate i own 2 cars, i ALWAYS HAVE, my hobbie is cars, im allowed a toy as i work for a living, my old man goes to the football, some people go fishing and cars,, well thats mine

ive ALWAYS wanted a porsche, when i seen how cheep they was ( boxsters) i was over come and wanted to get one so i could own porsche,, i agree not the best idea but ive still got another car anyway,,, though when we decided the cossie was nicked and that killed them plans for a few years

NOW 996's have 4 seats, they are a pretty car too and so im really tempted, insurance aint gonna be more than my impreza sti ( group 20 import,,, cant get higher than that), fuel cant be worse either as i get the most 200 miles to a tank cause i drive like a cock in it

running costs.. well ive just spent 1600 quid this week on whiteline roll bars, drop links, anti lift kit and tein suspension, about to spend 600 quid on tyres for 1 of my 6 sets of wheels for it,,,, running costs on a porsche aint gonna be worse im sure, i can get a clutch for a 996 turbo for 320 quid with the vat so a carrara aint gonna be that bad,, though panel work i do worry about

at the moment its still a dream though, need to work out if its worth having it as i now work 3 mins from my house walking distance

Get one, if it's too much to live with then sell it.....don't worry too much, life's too short!

At the end of the day people spend Ł18k on a golf tdi nowadays, when they could easily get summat more exotic, but it's down to personal choice and if you think the outlay is worth it!

RC4 makes me sad

ive never driven a boxster, but driven a few 997s recently, and they really impressed me, even the lowest specced C2 was still a properly good car (i'd always assumed all the non-turbos/GTs were crap)

Its actually the other way around dude. Boxster far more practical in my experience (I have a Boxster as well as a 996) The Boxster has quite Spacious front and rear boots rather than the one at the front in the 996...

And you can get big things in the Boxster in you need.... just drop the roof

The front boot in a 4wd Carrera is smaller than a 2wd as well (drive shafts)

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was talking purely about driving position and cabin space. I tried a boxster and cayman and didn't really fit in them, but the 996 was slightly more accepting of my physique
