Default Horrible screech when I back off accelerator

Help! When I'm accelerating everything is fine, but say I'm driving along in any gear and come off the gas (but still in gear) I get a loud screeching sound. Soon as I put the clutch in the noise stops?
Please don't tell me I need a new gearbox

Are they fixable? is it a box of job?
Would changing the box oil do any good?

No, it only does it when coming off the accelerator?
I thought if it was the release bearing it would do it all the time?
I'll fit a new fan belt for good measure in the morning but I don't think that's the problem.

Yeah release bearing would do it all the time not just when you back off.

worth replacing alternator belt first as the release bearing will involve removing the gearbox which is a real pain to do for such a small part.

my gearbox started doing this, floor it, get some revs, then back odd and funny loud noise, in the end the gearbox put liquid everywhere and i just got home.

Sounds like the mainshaft bearing to me, mine did the same, have a bigger uprated mainshaft bearing fitted from the IB5, touchwood, no probs with mine!
