Default saph running problems

Right my uncles saph is running like a bag of nails. Its been standing for years, and only comes out evey now and then to mot then park it back up. Got serviced last year, and new plugs and leads fitted but been running shit for a long time.

The problem is if you plant your foot it just splutters and doesnt really do anything. You have to slowly take it up through the revs but sometimes when it hits boost it hesitates then bangs.

He bought the car 16 years ago as a engine bay fire. It was originally 300bhp, got the rolling road printout to prove it. But with the fire he had to replace the loom and injectors and a few other things in the bay. So he just put standard stuff back on i think.

We got it out yesterday just to give it a run, i noticed the injectors are yellows, and the actuator is screwed nearly all the way in

Any ideas whats up with it? I recon its still got the chip ecs for 300bhp but the injectors are standard. What injectors should they be? or is there more wrong with it? sensor fucked or something?

Cheers

I tried to run mine on yellows with a 330 chip in when we first salvaged it. Sounded much like you describe here. Put a standard chip in and away she went... at least until we pulled the motor and went for bigger power

I would firstly change the CTS, I do mine every 2 years, as said you cannot mix and match injectors though, it may well pass the mot at idle emissions, but overall fuelling will be way off, so you need to know what chip it is first and suit the chip injectors to each other, would be just as easy to get a set of 0280 150 803's or dark greens as they are known as.

So i should try a set of greens first and see if it runs any better? Or would it be easier to put a standard ecu back in it? How much are a set of greens?

cheers

Myself I'd play safe and try the standard ecu first - have you checked if the chip looks standard. If they are not most folks mark them up in some way.

Rule of thumb - the actuator should be unwound until the hole is half way over the post it sits on... = low boost but safer to test if things have been mixed up.

If it were me in that situation i would take it to a well known tuner with a good reputation! and he should pinpoint the problem and may even save you wasting money to solve it by yourselves and then you will have peace of mind and a quick car again

Please check Plug gaps. was it running fine before the service??
if so it will be plugs IMO. try cheapest first mate.
if plugs are ok, open ecu and look to see what chip is in there.
