Default Air Injectors Or Apexi Boost Control??

Just want to find out what people think are the best route for controling boost.
I have a p8 with air-air and apparently cant get adjustable boost control which I would like.
Is the Apexi system as good at holding boost as air-air??

apexis are crap at above 30 psi so I would say AIRS why cant you have adjustable boost on the P8 then?

you could even use an AMAL/SEM valve and have a 2 stage boost control is you wanted

I must admit I am not that up on the P8 but I run the same seup as you do. Maybe the trigger for the antilag is an aux that would have been used for the boost pot?!

I am sure some one will be along to confirm. I thought i had seen people with both working on a P8 though!

That is incorrect, if you have the Super P8 (8 injector / ALS / wasted spark), then you CAN run 12 position boost control. It is only with the 4-injector / ALS board that you cannot run adjustible boost .

Hi Mike

If running 8 injectors & ALS does that mean I have a super P8 or maybe there another method of running 8 inj ?

Cheers

If it is running four injectors in normal driving and then the other four kick in at a certain boost level, then it is a Super P8 . If they have somehow piggy-backed the additional four on so all eight are running all the time, then it won't be.

There is not much to set up with them........they will learn with all the take correct inputs.

The profec B solonioid is still better for higher boost control though

Set the MBC to the maximum boost you want to run and limit the boost by your right foot

Get a different ecu that will run 8 injectors(if you want 8), and has more than one map, so just a case of flicking the switch, to whatever you have set it to.
I really have never seen the point of loads of adjustable boost points, when your foot can do the same, although I could understand a "wet" lower boost setting esp on a 2wd.

1. Noise for track days (a multiple adjustible boost allows you to set this as close to the "trip" point as possible) - has proved invaluable on my own car.
2. Wet track / road use (as when the tyres spin and the revs rise, you get even more boost, and not everyone has the same levels of skill to accurately modulate the throttle).
3. To keep the charge temps down on a really hot day (as just running full boost and hitting the charge air temp retard points in the map will reduce the power more than just keeping it below this threshold by backing off the boost).
4. When you give it to the wife / friend to drive .

what if your running 4 injectors and ALS without a
pectel board, can P8 run an adjustble manual boost pot ?

and you can also set the boost to rpm and can run 2-3 bar with no probs

Mike - I enquired about running ALS on my super 8, but Stu told me it isn't possible to do that and keep the 12 pot boost control? Something to do with it using the same memory locations or something?

I was just wondering how you are able to get round this? My super 8 is based on an L8 if that makes any difference?

Don't mean this to question Stu's knowledge in anyway

Perhaps you are getting confused and he means when converting your L8 to run HIS ALS, as normal L8 can't do this...?

I am referring to Super P8, which CAN do both as standard without modification .

I was under the impression you needed the MTC board to run ALS on P8?

However, I have no experience on running these ECUs without the boards, so Stu is your best bet for this question .
