it'll be when you paid it in they keyed your account number in wrong, so the payment still leaves the otherguys account but if the details for you are incorrect they go to a temporary holding account called rejected entries fir your sort code, people check this account on a daily basis and match up the rejected transaction with the reciepts from the counter staff, then sort the transaction out.

This will be whats happenin with your cheque mate, sit tight as this happends soooo often there will be a backlog, hense why the guys above always got his money through a week later

PM me if you wanna know more, I did cheques for 3.5 years with Barclays

if it's left the other guys account you should mate but I wouln't send it till I see the money in your account, they might not match the entries with your account and then they would return the funds to the debiter

Wait if I were you mate, you should ring your branch anyways, they should be sorting this for you, they make reciepts for every transaction they do, so if you can remember what counter you went to and what time they should be able to find your transaction

On a side note if you paid it into your Barclays account the reciepts get sent off daily so it can take them a day or 2 to get the info back from a local processing centre, which branch did you pay it into? Sort code?

I had this happen to me and it was a fucking nightmare to say the least....spend 2 days on the phone constantly to halifax chasing a vanished 3k cheque.

Absolutely shocking that can actually loose your money!

You must have a receipt for paying it in or some sort of infoirmation from teh guy who's cheque it is (get him to contact bank and find out where his funds went to).

Good luck and it woint be easy.....worst thing is the guy I was selling to thought I was ripping him off as his money had gone from his account :S

Cheers
Dan

you have no proof that the buyer is not lying, and that the money hasnt cleared from their account. buyer could be trying it on? could be something else to look into!!!

Yes that would be a good idea as his cheque will have a coding on the back of it which Barclays can trace to find the account of where the cheque went

Your bank should still be doing this for you though mate it's not down to you, just go in or ring them up and create hell and let them know that there is a purchase hanging on the clearance of this cheque, if they don't jump through hoops ask for the manager, you're not at fault here the bank is!!

Get the other chap to send you a screen shot from his online banking page.
I would have thought it'd show the cheque leaving and where its gone to.

Bare in mind to the banks its all paper. Theres no such thing as 'money', its all just numbers in a machine.
