Has anyone fitted the Safety Devices cage to a Mk3/4 Escort, particularly a non-sunroof one?
The rear half is in, but its slightly over to one side. It's closer to the Pillar on the drivers side than it is on the passenger side. Others I have seen are like this, but now I have come to fit the front section, it touches the body all the way round the top of the door on the drivers side and I can't really see any way to sort it without cutting/rewelding.
I expected some irregularity with it being a pre-built cage, but this is a bit more than I imagined.

as the living legend Aaroncast says, its supposed to be a close fit, my mates who have built wrc cars and group a cars sometimes take the roof off and put it back again, and i know rally teams who cut holes in the floor and put them back in again.
i have seen rollcages so tight even on a new build the cage can be seen pushing against the roof skin when you catch the light across the skin

I never expected it to be perfect, but I didn't expect to have to put a pry bar between the cage and the pillar to get the front section in, then releasing the bar will leave the cage hard against that pillar.
mine was an absolute mare!
took 2 of us about an hour n half to get the front section in, with lots of tilting the rear cage back, fitting 1 front side, then removing, then trying the other, then trying the front crossbar, then repeating.....
in the end i had the drivers side so hard up against the roof it started to push the door rubber off, and even getting the retaining bolts through was a slag as u struggle to get a spanner on either end to tighten them up!!!
id like to say its worth it but......
lol

Hi Christian,I have an OMP cage in mine, and while it was a tight fit,me and a mate got it in within an hour. Not much help to you,but this bit of advice maybe will.Make sure you have the doors fitted,I didnt, and it was a bastard to get to the back of hinge bolts when we got around to refitting the doors, because the poxy front legs of the cage where in the way!!!!All the best fitting the cage, hope you get it in,regards,Micky

My bad.
I had a sparco rollcage and that was awfull. Ended up not using it as i was realy unhappy with the fitment and had to chop it about to even get the thing to remotely fitt.

Christian,
I will give Gordon at ACS a heads up then shall I? LOL
If your that tight its touching why not weld some strength/gusset plates to the pillars? Should stop the noise from rubbing every time you go over a heavy bump.
