Has anyone fitted the Safety Devices cage to a Mk3/4 Escort, particularly a non-sunroof one?

The rear half is in, but its slightly over to one side. It's closer to the Pillar on the drivers side than it is on the passenger side. Others I have seen are like this, but now I have come to fit the front section, it touches the body all the way round the top of the door on the drivers side and I can't really see any way to sort it without cutting/rewelding.

I expected some irregularity with it being a pre-built cage, but this is a bit more than I imagined.
