S1 no spark, help!
As above no spark, traced it back as far as coil, tried a plug on the end of the king lead to the battery earth terminal turned it over and nothing.
Tried another coil and king lead same result.
Tried this same test on my S2 and sparked with no probs, so where do i go from here? ECU? or dodgy wiring maybe?
Bit stuck now!

when i rebuilt my S1 we spent 3 days trying to find the cause of no spark. relpaced everything with no luck.
turned out it was a small green wire!!
There is a green wire which runs from the coil to the fuse box. It runs round the headlights and rad and back up to the box, coming in and out of the loom.
It may be worth checking this and bridging it to see if its the cause, as the wire is part of the circuit responsible for the 'hall effect' distribution.
I was lucky in the respect that my mate is a ford technitian, so we managed to borrow a "break out box" (an early diagnostics tool) which drew us to the green wire.

believe it or not i had the same prob on my series 1 it turned out to be the little
earth wirethat screws next to the wiper moter.
I found it by accident when we were turning it over and leant on the wire which
earthed it out and we had a spark, so screwed it down tight started straight away

yes as above, if you,ve removed the heater blower from under the bonnet and took off the earth wire next to the wiper motor, well i believe the other wire is an earth for the ecu and wont spark without it connected,so check for good earth there, other than that sounds like possible distributor packed up? or dodgy plug on it?
Ok all earths checked, all wires continuity checked right back to ECU!!
If the sensor in the Distributer was dead (plug on top), would that not sending it's signal to the ECU prevent it from sparking?

is the plug loose on top of your dizzy check that get a mate to turn it over and try moving plug ,sometimes the wires are bare where they have been rubbing away

i did say distributor, oh and yes if the dizzy has packed up you wont get a spark from the coil as the dizzy triggers the coil to spark on a rs turbo.
