hi guys,i have done something very silly and wondered if you could help,here goes

whilst removing the cylinder head on my bt escos i have accidentley dropped the torque bit down the hole which is at the back of the head, on removal of the head i discovered or assume it has fallen all the way down the hole to the back left of the block (the slightly larger one next to the two square water ways) what is this hole and/or where will the torque bit be found and whats the best way to do this cheers guys. any help appreciated as i want to be ready for ford fair

 

Magnet on a flexible line maybe?

 

Yeah you can get a telascopic (spelling) magnet mate

 

yeah have tried this and no joy where does this port lead to is it the sump

 

Think the port your describing is the main oil return to the sump, you may have to remove the sump to get the torque bit back.

Have you tried putting a telescopic magnet into the sump through the turbo oil drain hole? Chances are the torque bit has moved in the sump, try going into the sump through any hole you can and fishing around with the magnet to see if you can find it.

 

silly mistake mate but easily done (by myself aswell ) mine dropped straight through this hole you talk about on a 2wd and into the sump,on a 2wd the surface is smooth and fell into the oil pan. on a 4wd there are places it would get trapped before reaching the oil pan.
trouble is a magnetic pick up pen sticks to everything metal inside.
I think your quickest solution is to have the sump off mate.

thats a total pain, removing the sump is not a 10 min job on the escort

 

think it will be ok down there,cannot see it getting sucked up.

 

really you think it will be ok in there do you think it will just hang about in the bottom,do you think one of those magnetic sump screws would get it ?

 

last year on my last day b4 we left for x-mass i was doing a head gasket and timing belt at work on a zetec focus and my boss was rushing me becose he wanted to no weather it would start b4 we left so i accidently left the timing pin screwed into the back of the block (the one that locks the crank) and it snaped it when i terned it over my boss said it would be ok and you no wot it was lol and a year later when it come back for a service it was stuck the the drain plug lol

in my opinion its gonna sit at the bottom of the sump and wont cause you any problems the forces of gravity are quite strong

if its the same as a 2wd i would leave it as i did the same tried to get it with a magnet and got that stuck as well, after a lot of hard work and weeks later i bit the bullet and left it down there brought a new one and put it all back toghether and it was fine and has been ever since.
