come on you cant say that every car has at least a few thrashing...unless you buy brand new with 0 miles you cant ever be sure...
same as someone saying a Saff or Escos has never been raced or abused lol

i can safely say that out of the 83 cars ive owned ive never hit the limiter in any gear or in any car . i dont think ive every drove a car to 6k revs !
i just think , knowing my luck , it will fookin blow up !

you serious mate

im deadly serious mate
i love a fast car but i always change gear at 5k at the most usually , if im giving it a bit of beans . i always shit myself and think the engines gonna break or something i thrash the hell out of it . i took a bmw 328i auto out the other day , i was thinking of having , put it in sport and my mate then demonstrated that it dont change till 6.5k revs in the sports mode . when i drove it i couldnt let it go that high lol .
ive just had shit luck with cars breaking and thats without thrashing them . i always think if i thrash them they are gonna break even quicker lol

My torque curve tails off massively after about 5.5k on the focus so I change circa 6k or 6.5k the most when really pushing it (7k rev limiter). It's hit the limiter only on the dyno so far

Bit overpriced IMO, a mate of mine just sold his minter of a vectra gsi was standard apart from an air-filter it had same miles roughly plus cambelt new brakes all round recent full service and got about 2k for it.
Don't see a problem, probably gets much more abuse on the road than it does a little 15 second or so blast up a quarter.
By the same token, what about people that advertise the fact they've just done X track day, or done X speed at Brunters then sell their car a month later on the very forum they detailed such escapades?
Every car gets abused, nowt wrong with that so long as it's looked after OK

Too true. I feel sorry for whoever bought my old bog standard mondeo

By the time I finished with it, it had 4 square wheels, been thrashed up and down endless tracks, been stuck in the mud twice, lived at the redline from pretty much cold almost every day. Fair play to it tho, put up to my abuse for 50k miles, never lost a drop of oil or anything!
So whoever has Y922 SLF now, i apologise
I always live by the rule if it was going to cause damage, the manufacturer wouldn't allow it.
Benni.
When I drove my dads TDCi Focus he told me off for taking it to the limiter in the first four gears as there was lots of smoke. I told him to trust me and I did it a few more times. It was like a different car afterwards. So much smoother.

My mate got a 1.7d 205 as a runaround last year, was a one old lady owner car... Was absolute wank, wouldnt get above 80.
We hammered the living fuck out of it for a week or so, made it drive so much nicer and went on to achieve the prestigious 102mph award

I think I could be wrong there though.
Benni.

When my dad sold his the ignorant buyer asked 'It's never been driven hard has it?'.

taking it to the limiter in a STRAIGHT LINE can be totally pointless in some cars.
not talking about that, neither is porkie.
the Auris I race has a diesel engine with peak power well under 4k (3600 IIRC). in a straight line you are best off changing between 4 and 4.5k to get in the best powerband for the next gear and the best acceleration, trust me, ive timed it with the datron gear to check.
BUT on the track its a different story, and at some points ive taken it to the 5.5k limiter, even tho its WAY past the powerband, as changing up halfway round a corner or just before you need to change down is a waste of time and would make a slower lap.
Talking about taking cars with a low peak power to the rev limiter in a straight line is gay. Cars with a high peak power fair enough, but on a "normal" car its not straight lines where its useful to use all the revs.

benni, depends on the car for the optimum shiftpoint.
personally i change on the limiter in mine, as it makes peak power there anyway. on my old sierra it was totally pointless revving it past 6k

ah yes, ditto stav. many times on track (especially the ring) i will even hold the car on the limiter for quite a while. as changing up just before the braking point to the corner only means ive got to change straight back down again.
similar reason why i'll sometimes stay ina higher gear on a sweeping corner, as youre better off just having less power than having to change mid-bend and fucking the corner up anyway
