I think everyone is mate, we're certainly feeling it. A lot less money in our pockets at the end of the month these days. And we've only got a small mortgage compared to anyone taking one on new now (if you can get one).
I wouldn't worry too much mate, as long as you can ride out the storm you will be okay. Obviously if you sell the house you are going to loose thousands at the moment, but give it a year and prices will be up where they are now i think

All our bills have gone up, the fuel is definitely a problem for me because I have a 120 mile round trip commute (although I work from home 2 days a week now which helps). But it still costs me £250 a month just in diesel to get to work. Not good.
Yeh we do houses and contracting, so we still have plenty on just not sure what the future holds. Another good thing is im well thought of at my company, so should be one of the last to go!

fact is the country still have to tick over so to speak. There is work about just a bit less atm.
What we really need is few more imgrants in the country cos, acording to the PC brigade they inject money into the country
Ok soz not the best time to bring that up with people feeling bad
, but maybe if we didnt have so many then the country wouldnt be heading this way.
My company is making redundancies, and guess what nationality of people are first to go
Got rid of a woman yesterday who has been there nearly 10 years, and has done most jobs and worked in most ares of the factory, infact a few months ago to "help out" she run the factory on the night shift, didnt get any extra for it at the time was just told how much it would help the company and how much it would be appreciated, fooking horse crap
, now they shown how much it was appreciated ! (was offered a job on days on the line (lowest of the low) or a night role in kitting (heavy lifting role and this woman is like 50) or take the redundancy, knowing she couldnt or wouldnt take the jobs offered to her )
Rename her role and give it to a Polish woman who says she DOESNT want it, she takes that or SHE will be made redundant
What a wonderful country

from what i can see the housebuilders are taking it hardest first.
nothing has changed for me yet but we will see what happens,if i have air in my lungs and enough to keep my family going i will be happy

Ive just started a PC support role, and across the many branches I support, they are rolling out thin clients to every user.
To the non nerdy folk, its basicall a "box" that sits next to a monitor and keyboard but has no hard drive or things like that and just communicates with a server for all the applications/programs etc, and can be configured remotely.
Of course they will go down, as will the monitors/keyboards, new install required etc .. But as for job threat?
Possibly..

I work in the IT hardware sector and we are busy as ever. If you look at what a recession means its not a scary as it sounds. Even if we do have a recession. It seems in the past resessions have sorted the 'strong' businesses from the 'weak' businesses.
the prices of new build houses where rediculous anyway with your average joe public never being able to afford a 'modest' £250000+ mortgage for what will be an average 3 bed semi.
prices need to be brought down to a more realistic level as they couldnt go on the way they were.
it might get a bit bumpy for a while but hopefully things wont go back like the dark days of the 80's.

I manage a pub and along with other luxuries we have been the first to suffer.
Between the government and supermarkets our trade is on its knees! Supermarkets didn't even bat an eyelid at the budget. Everything we sell has increased even crisps!!!
People forget about ancillery trades too taxi's, musicians, window cleaners. Pubs are closing at a rate of 4 a day.
Doesn't matter who you are its indisciminate, young or old are being affected. Our staple trade has always been the grey pound. They are being hit hard too.
So called experts say that if we can tough out this year it'll be ok but its not like theres a big switch flicked on jan 1st 2009 and we can all start spending again!!
I had 3 months out of work when a job offer fell through and it took me at least 18 months to recover. Just my 5 penneth!

its the housing market which has got most people concerned IMO, scrap stamp duty for 1st time buyers and that will sort out the housing market!
i've just solved the countrys housing issue!

im a carpenter and noticed it, cheques not turning up on time from contractors, contractors messing me about with money so i ended up quitting and doing my own work, but things are definetly quiet
on the news they said that 2 big house building firms were shedding jobs because they couldn't biuld as many houses
which is what you need to house everyone who comes here
different bandwagon but i think if you can tough tit uot for the next few years you'll be fine
it's those peole who have over stretched and thought "here's a good idea, i'll buy 5 houses and rent them out" who are going to suffer the most
i know you have to speculate to accumilate, but when it goes wrong you are the person who's going to get fucked in the ass big time

the issue IS the price of houses though,,,,, its not stamp duty but the MASSIVE increase in the prices of em,, they NEED to come down,, the more they go up the more the banks make remember !!!
banks control the money,,,, so THEY decide how much they give out,,,, then when they want they call back the loans,,,, usually done by scaring people and then people run for there cash to they " have " to call there money in,,,,, or charge more interest,,,, on a loan THEY set the amount that you could afford,,, and these days some places have been offereing 110% morgage over 30 years at 5 times there wages,,,,, for a place that aint fucking woth it,,,, will need work in the next 5 years ect ect ect
buy to lets are gonna be flogged off soon,,,,,, thats gonna saturate the market with property,,,, lowering the price and also that first time buyers FEED the market,,, but cant get a morgage unless its at a silly interst rate
either way look whos making money,,, think about it REALLY carefull
WAR also makes people rich,,,, but not the poor,,, just the men in control with cash !!!
all this is gonna affect us,,,, we have been warned about it for YEARS,,,, ive been telling people for 2 years about there credit cards ect,,,, all catching up
theres hard times gonna come..... the pubs ARE feeling it already as said as i been talking to a few bar managers in the local area ( was out friday and it was dead so done bar crawl )
not everyone is affected by it though but new build tradesmen, pubs and shops are gonna feel it
also look at the price of modded cars,,,,, they are dropping in price MAJOR hence i aint selling the scoobie
not when the increase happens AFTER the fixed rate,,, then hes gonna have to suffer the prices on the letting
when people cant afford to rent they will start flat sharing, living back with parents downsizing
this is all just specutation,, on and the price of repairs to the property too

laying people off is just a way of cutting corners im afraid,,, it happens with the older people as they are closer to retirement and generally have less things to buy also so are not as hard done by as they make out ( ever wondered why granny was loaded yet mummy and daddy had to struggle and worked 65 hours a week )
in order to keep others in work you HAVE to trim the fat,,,, most companys use it as a way to loose the dead wood and also people who get the sick pay and get more old school benifits ect
thats business,,,, not recession im afraid

I must be living in a different country to some as i'm feeling it hard as are many at the factory i work at. I actually think that i'm up to £400 per month worse off now.
The houses down my road have also dropped £20k in price this year.

Im glad I gave up smoking tbh. £5+ a box now
Im doing more miles atm and am used to spending £20 per week on petrol. Since the hyke Im doing £40 per week instead of what I would be using of £25-£30... My budget for each week has gone AWOL since the big petrol rise!! Ive done nothing different, except a few more miles each week and Ive spent a 4 week budget (Usually could buy something for £50-£100 and still cope) in 2 weeks
