With this recession we are loosing a large amount of our traditional manufacturing to china and the far east, business failures on an epic scale, death of the car industry etc etc etc

A nation of growing workshy loosers so no "get up and go" to pull us out of recession as if your on benefits then "What recession??".

So is our time as a country with wealth now up???

How long before we end up a mess like Russia post cold war or places like romania????

Cant be long now!! UK will go bust, then what, government organisations dont get paid, degradation of society to a new low??

And my once "secure" forces pension i think is very much just as much at risk as everyone elses investments!!

This country has been in a far worse state than we're in now, and we are still here, for example when the British Empire first started to crumble.

As with Global warming, most people are looking at too short a view of things.

Manufacturing will always move to the developing nations.
Whilst I've been alive electrical/electronic goods manufacture has gone from here to Japan, to Taiwan and now to China.
It will be going to India next then Africa.

If we had implemented a closed door immigration policy right from the 2nd world war till today, I suspect our economy would be in a worst state than it is in currently.

not closed door but controlled with limits to the amounts entering depending on their trade or occupation or speciality. no one should get a free ride, everyones got to contribute something to society.allowing many thousands of europes bottom rung parasite scum to enter doesnt really help.we have enough home grown to sort out.

I believe sorting out the "home grown" ones is more important.

By defintiion anyone who has managed to make it here all the way from afghaminstan, avoiding the authorities all the way, has at least got off their arse and done something to improve their life, which puts them a couple of rungs up from a lot of the home grown scum we have who wouldnt do the same.

IMHO the problem is a far simpler one, we have more outgoing money than we have incoming money.

We all buy cheap foreign goods continually, and with every single taiwanese TV or chinese conrod etc we buy, the value of the uk goes down slightly.

If you have a company, you make sure your incomings are more than your outgoings in order to make profit, I dont see how running a country is any different TBH

China for example has come forward by doing the opposite of what we are doing, they have sold more than they have bought.

Sure more people coming in means it dilutes a little bit how much of the UK wealth each of us have, but I dont believe that effect is as significant, plus many of them work in low paid jobs which actually manage to enable us to compete better with the foreign countries in the first place!
