yh im going to order a 60mm defi Bf one.. just thinking what other gauge i will need aswell. Mike any other vital gauges i need? i got voltage, oil pressure, boost.

I would have gone for a stack AFR gauge ut they dont make them 60mm.

i've often seen those small ones in the fuel line and wondered what the point is. they will tell you the fuel pressure at idle, but won't tell you if it's being raised on boost when it's most critical and when your fuel pump may not have enough capacity

The good thing about the Defi gauges is that if you buy the Defi boost gauge as well, you can use the fuel pressure differential function. What this does is warn you if the fuel pressure doesn't rise at the same rate as the boost like it should do .

but they look like a race car when you lift the bonnet pmsl

ive often wondered the point of oil presure gauges,,,,, as when its dropped the engines alread fucked aint it ?

oil temp is good,,, voltage,,,, erm not sure on that tbh cause that tells the battery not the power to the pump/ecu which would be more important im sure

boost is good though as it moves and AFR ( one that works ) is also good

Its a very good gauge Ginge, You can see if the oil pressure is to low or not rising with the revs. Imagine if you didnt have the Gauge? you wouldnt know the pressure was low untill it was to late.

My gauge saved my engine atleast once as i noticed the pressure dropping. Turned out the oil return from the turbo was split.

On the Defi's you can set the alarm warning function as high as you want. You are confusing the standard oil light with a proper gauge, as by the time this comes on, your engine is most likely fucked. However, I have my warning set at 2 bar, so this should give me plenty of warning if it goes below this in normal driving. Obviously it is on at idle, but I know that isn't a problem.

mike im not, just stating that most times the presure has dropped in a engine means the engines fucked,,,,,,, ok you find the problem but theres a good chance its too late

ok a few reasons it may help.... but most times its just gonna get you paranoid

ps: yes i have a oil presure gauge in my car anyway

a alarm is a great idea,,,,, but whats the most comon reason for the oil presure to be low ?

Ginge,
I'm not saying it will save you engine in every scenario, because if it is fucked, it is fucked, you just know about it sooner to perhaps save a catastrphic failure (rod through side of block etc), but certainly in Nash's example, it saved his engine.

you know what im getting at though, im not arguing,,,, just commenting about the general irony of the oil presure gauge as most times it just tells you bad news

What's your oil pressure at idle when your oil temp is 108 deg C Mike? ( I figured if anyone knew or kept records it would be you )
