Default Escort Cossie rallycar twin side exit exhausts?

Some GrpA/WRC (i cant remember) Escort Cossies had twin side exits, one each side, I think it was done for silencing reasons (ie getting enough boxes in there while keeping decent ground clearance.

Does anyone have any pics of one of these exhausts? Or the underside of one of these cars.

I just want to see where they put the boxes, and if there any big difference in length in the pipes when they split in to two.

Cheers

I know of a saph saloon car that runs a similar setup, it has a merc 190 back box in the centre which is fitted the wrong way round and then has 2 pipes coming off it under each sideskirt, Its not loud at all either.

I don't have any pics though

I actually thought Harveys and the other works type cars had one side exit ?

I've seen the underside of a 3 door thundersaloon and it has a huge recess on the drivers side floor pan for the exhaust to come out.

probably - as they do on bikes. it's a good way to 'cheat' the system as you only have half of the airflow to silence so can get away with smaller silencers

Exactly why im asking. Id like to track the Chaser, and even my turbine outlet internal diameter is 3.5in, and with 600bhp+ it needs a 3.5in system too really. And thats expensive and loud usually.

But a 3.5in downpipe splitting to a twin 3in system with a decent sized silencer each exiting either side (and obv no unsilenced screamer pipe) should probably get past noise regs and be cheaper than a quiet 3.5in system.

stavros i was told that aiming the pipes to hit the floor ( like a renualt clio 1.2) will help to make the sound of the exhaust seem a little quieter

oh and BMW 5 series boxes are a V shape or the Merc one like johnybravo mentioned

if you need to get the sizes of em ive got a " few " in stock at work i can test diamiters when im back at work for you

Harvey's is done like this for the exact same reason. Has side exit on both sides. If you look at his Brunters timing post, there are pictures of the exhaust on there (but not from underneath).

Ironincally ive been thinking about putting two pipes on the nova for exactly the same reaosn, NO chance of getting it on track with its current exhaust so was thinking of a Y piece across the back of the car into two silencers with the exit pipes pointing in different directions (one across one back or down)

With regards to the screamer pipe, it wont make any difference to a static test as its closed of course, can effect driveby though, and in that circumstance the twin exhaust will make less of a difference than a static as its measured from further away so more like to hear both anyway.

Screamer will screw you on the drive by, but the exhausts pointing other directions do deffo help on drive by as they usually triggered as you go past, rather than at a distance, so you might be fine.

Ive even seen cars with the exhausts pointing at whatever side the microphones are not on on when its a car thats used at a single track.
