is the cage meant to sit this far back from the pillar? (window screen/side window)

The cage was destined for a car with full interior, which it no longer has. I'm working on sorting out a proper one, but it's taking some time as I spend every minute of the day working...

It didn't get on well with the bumpy track, but it was indeed going rather well with Mr Going at the wheel despite that.
